Tragic death of Count Baranoff in Mojave Desert
Count Vladimir A. Baranoff of Los Angeles died of heat prostration near Silver Lake in the Mojave Desert on June 24. He traveled with miners Mr. Cody and F. H. Hall after passing Barstow en route to desert mining property. Born in Alaska about 58 years ago, he was a Russian government subject and noted mining promoter. Deputy Coroner Emmet Waters arrived. no inquest held.

Cement Plant Alleges Excess Rates In Power Contract
Golden State Portland Cement Company at Oro Grande, San Bernardino County, files a complaint with the Railroad Commission against Southern Sierras Power Company. T. M. Haws a pioneer of the Mojave desert and Barstow resident died Wednesday at Redlands after months of illness. He was taken ill at his ranch, treated at Loma Linda Sanitarium and later died. Burial was by Courtier Undertaking Parlors. He leaves wife and five children Verda Winnifred Jean Floyd and Francis. Local citizens sent a floral tribute.
