Record June 1928 Auto Traffic Through Daggett Station

Eastern car travel to Southern California through Daggett quarantine station near Barstow set a June record with 7,931 cars and 25,907 passengers checked, surpassing 1927 figures and leading all state stations. Six month total reached 22,239 cars, with forecasts of a new yearly high in 1928.

Barstow Board Elects Teachers for Next Term

Barstow Union High School Board held a special meeting and elected teachers for the upcoming term. P Harrison Hurst will teach General Science, Miss Spight Spanish, Miss Prather English, Miss Woicklier the commercial department, and Mr Brady in manual training. one position remains vacant. Grammar and high school open September 10. Last year’s grammar enrollment was 318. planned this year is 340. A new building is under construction with a basement split into two rooms for manual training and storage.

A fire destroyed the Ray Kelly home south of Hinkley about 6 p m Thursday evening. Kelly, away briefly at the barn, could not save anything as flames started from a faulty flue.
