Sprouse Reitz Co Inc announces opening in Barstow with a ten year lease after a year of search. The 100 foot store room will offer a full stock from soup to nuts. H J Hinch is district manager and C J Underwood local manager overseeing a six member staff preparing opening display this Friday afternoon and evening.
Al Mudgett and son Elven have leased the Tourist Garage and are cleaning it up and installing machinery. He plans a forthcoming announcement after equipment arrives, with a blacksmith shop and light repair capabilities.
Miss Marian Ramsey and Miss Em nice Pry are employed in the new Sprouse-Reitz Co. store.
Mr and Mrs A D Pitts visited Mr and Mrs Harper in Los Angeles over the weekend. The Harpers recently left the Beacon Cafe where Mr Harper was manager.
Kenneth Ramsey travels Thursday morning to Los Angeles with his two sisters Mrs Verna Salibury and Mrs Ray to spend a brief visit with their parents.
The 20-30 Ladies Club met at Mrs Russell Cope's home Tuesday evening. After dinner, players gathered for cards with Mrs Percy Jordan taking high score and Mrs Russell Riley earning the low score prize.
Frank B. Lewis aged 65 died on the Fourth near Zabriskie a station on the Tonopah and Tidewater railroad. Autopsy surgeon Louise H Bacon of San Bernardino ruled death by cerebral hemorrhage and heat prostration. Lewis had served as mine watchman for thirteen months. White and Platt conducted the funeral.
Mr and Mrs F BE Lacking came back from an out of town vacation. Lacking is local superintendent for Southern Sierras Power Co. C M Lindsley of Riverside will relieve him for two weeks. Mrs Lindsley and their young son stay in Barstow. They will visit Las Vegas and the Boulder Dam site on Sunday.
Fireworks sold despite bans lit two fires near the Paramount Furniture store in Barstow. Ogden Platt spotted flames and notified the fire department, saving the building with about 2000 dollars in damage. A separate hillside fire behind the furniture company led to quick extinguishment.
Miss Sadie H. Young principal of Salt Lake City intermediate schools was badly injured when two Ford cars and a Dodge collided west of Barstow. She left the hospital and returned to Salt Lake City this week, per Dr. John Graham, her attending physician.
Mr and Mrs Harry Kelly and their two boys are preparing for a fifty five day motor trip. The itinerary covers the Columbia River Highway to Canada Glacier National Park Yellowstone National Park and return via Salt Lake City.
A Las Vegas Age report notes two Boulder Dam workers fell ill from heat. The line, apart from the numeral, fits many parts of the country currently as heat affects laborers on large projects.
Mr and Mrs Ed Pitcher and the Steen children Bill and Leland and Mr and Mrs Jim OConnell of Ludlow spent two holidays at the Pitcher cabin in Big Bear Valley Ed Pitcher and his mascot Bill remained in the mountains while the others returned home Monday
Mr and Mrs A W Miller of Riverside spent the Fourth with daughter Mrs Fred Hart and family. They left with granddaughter Audrey and traveled from Barstow to Twin Peaks near Arrowhead for a week or more.
Mrs. Fred Nevin left Friday for Los Angeles for a vacation. Sunday night Mr. Nevin the pharmacist at the Cunningham drug store joined his wife. He motored in with Carl Jordan who went in on a business trip.
Mr and Mrs George Henderson and George Junior Miss Helen Beaumont of Beverly Hills Miss Sweeny of San Bernardino Homer Martin and Arthur Hinton of Barstow motored to Big Bear Valley Friday night returning Sunday evening They enjoyed their stay at the Lubin J Henderson cabin in the pines.
