Improvements to Santa Fe Line from Cottonwood to San Bernardino
The Santa Fe railroad upgrades will add a double track from Barstow to San Bernardino and reduce grades through Cajon Pass. Roadmaster Al Ray oversees work from San Bernardino to Keenbrook with traffic expected by February 1. Northward, ten gangs drive two tunnels near Dell siding, with grading to finish by August 1 and new line openings planned around January 1, 1914. The project boosts Sunrise Valley and the desert's west mesa region.

A night trespasser broke into a small house near the Bagdad Chase mill occupied by watchman Louis Harmon. Harmon chased and captured the thief who fled. police found valuables from a freight car on the prisoner. The suspect was remanded to the Superior Court by Judge Carter and sent to county jail.
