San Bernardino January reports that the Citrus Institute will run February 20 and 21 in conjunction with the Tenth National Orange Show. Dr. H J Webber of the University of California Citrus Experiment Station says the program will feature top citrus authorities from around the world. The Wigpee Show is scheduled for February 13.

A Barstow gathering at the Victory Theater featured Hugh L Dickson, a San Bernardino lawyer and congressional candidate, introduced by Hough Henderson as chairman. Speakers praised Dickson as a friend of labor, urged workers to back him, and noted his railroad reform stance and desire for government ownership of railroads. Dix Van Dyke of Daggett attended the pruning demonstration in Apple Valley on January 8 hosted by County Agent Shaper and Dr. Whitten of the University of California. About 60 ranchers from across the county were present, with delegates from Chino and Silver Valley. Dr. Whitten urged reducing soil emphasis and boosting pruning, noting desert orchards thrive on atmosphere and less rich soil. President Peters praised tree size and urged a packing and marketing cooperative. A fine dinner at the Lewis ranch concluded the day, leaving attendees satisfied with the trip.

The California Highway Commission asks Governor Stephens to direct the state treasurer to sell a block of 12,005,000 dollars of the new 40,000,000 dollar highway bonds. This marks the first offering of the latest 40 million bond issue and the bonds are expected to be offered for sale soon in Kemmm.
