Town Topics reports new arrivals and duties with VY McNeal from Fresno at Hotel Melrose and Miss Ireland returning to school from Los Angeles. It notes Prohibition enforcement controversy, oil, mining, and theater plans, along with Barstow Real Estate inquiries, Harvey House staff changes, film company activity around Calico mines, and upcoming Antlers Club elections for 1923 with new officers anticipated.
The Barstow Printer announces the installation of an 8 line Linotype in its composing room to meet rising circulation and ad demand. The system speeds setup, allows varied typography, and enables one operator to produce more type than several hand-setters. Supplies move toward Western Pacific Oil Company at Manix. A shipment of two eight inch hydraulic jacks and sixteen inch pipe passed through Parstow Monday night on the way to the well, 13 miles east of Yermo.
An idle Friday talk at the High School featured Mr. Farrington recounting a summer trip to the Grand Canyon. On Friday the High School boys varsity will play the town team in the grammar school auditorium. Midyear examinations are slated for January 15 and 19. Myron Fisher, baseball captain, is sidelined with lingering balls. Herbert Gouldin returns to school after a short illness.
The Mojave River Riparian Owners' Association holds its annual meeting in Barstow on Saturday January 13 at 1 p.m. Trustees will be elected and other important business considered. All interested parties urged to attend. W. A. Foster, Secretary.
Dr Mapes, a dentist, permanently locates his practice in Barstow California. The move anchors local dental care with a focus on general and family services as indicated by the new Barstow location.
State engineers report surveying near Ludlow on the Old Trails Road as part of the National Old Trail project approved by Washington. Initial Baratow east survey has been underway for months. Barstow to Victorville construction will start this year but is delayed until right of way agreements are signed. Garstow to gain electric lighting in Williams addition and North and West Barstow districts.
An Antlers Club dance drew a large audience with much applause for old time waltzes and popular dances. Despite missing contracted musicians, four players and guests Mrs. Momer Martin and her visitors entertained, with remarks on music and a note about Farm Bureau activities and dairy odor findings from USDA on silage and milking.
