Imperial 3 Corporation lays mains to expanded north and west districts. Water plant main being extended with twenty five new connections expected by month end, boosting service for a larger population and new customers.
The Southern Sierras Power Company will spend about 500000 dollars in 1926 to add a new operating building and installation at the San Bernardino Steam Plant. Construction begins about February 1, housing a 15000 KVA condenser, two transformer banks, a new steel bus structure with oil switches and cooling systems, and a dispatching switchboard to improve voltage control, transmission, and service across the system.
E. J. Tripp and son Murry departed Barstow yesterday for Winslow Arizona where the Tripps operate a garage. Murry will return to Barstow at month’s end to work at the Petes Shoe Shop.
A daughter arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Metcalf in Los Angeles on December 28. Flora Brass, sister of Charles Brass, and Chas Brass family traveled to L A to meet their new niece and parents. Also noted are visits by Mrs. Frank West from the East, Mr. and Mrs. Shale and daughter from San Jose, H. Pendleton on business in L A, and Edwards from Barstow ill in L A. The Hub advertises an In Between Season sale to clear stock for new spring goods, plus local notes on Mrs. A. Craig, Ethel McCuistion, Alma Anderson, and a Chamber of Commerce function.

W. J. Burke, known as Bill Burke, a switchman, recuperates after a November 21 crash near San Bernardino. His car was rear ended by a sedan causing a rollover. he suffered eight broken ribs a broken right collar bone and chest injuries. Elks Club aided with doctors and ambulance. His daughter and son-in-law rushed to his bedside. He hopes to return to work soon. the other drivers have not been located.
Barstow Chamber of Commerce members will meet at Barstow Auditorium next Monday at 8 o'clock to elect officers for the coming year.
Latest hospital bulletin from Santa Fe indicates Fred Hunt in critical condition after severe injuries in Barstow. An electrical foreman for Santa Fe, his right foot was amputated above the ankle after a switch engine collision near the round house. his left leg was damaged and gangrene necessitated further amputation. Family remains at his bedside as officials report little improvement.
Work begins on a 120 foot shaft at Barstow Mining and Milling Company. A hundred feet of work remain. A power hoist operates as Doc Smith C R Mason Henry Britt and Ernest Kean handle the heavy labor with Mrs Smith supplying three meals daily to the four workers.
Mrs. Frank Kerr hosted a birthday gathering Tuesday night for her son Scott on his thirteenth birthday. The group enjoyed games and a supper, with attendees Scott Kerr, Jim Kerr, Glenn Pendleton, Jifford Crouch, Ernest Walton, Charles Wright, and Billy Chambers. The partygoers praised it as the best party of the season. Mr and Mrs Kelly Eastham returned home from Los Angeles where Kelly had back X rays and had been bedridden for months but is now able to be out.
Seven teams are used to level and check alfalfa on two 40 acre Barry Ranch tracts between Barstow and Hinkley. Kimball No 10 pump installed by Kimball Pump Company. A 150 foot well with 14 inch casing dug by Briggs of Hinkley. Water 13 feet from surface, expected to drop to 40 feet with 20 hp meter direct connection, pumping 1000 gallons per minute. C G Phillips in charge.
O M Dolson of Hodge hosted cousin George Teams and George's aunt Mrs Shaw during holidays. George learned about hibernating desert and turtle winter quarters from Albert McLane of Hicks. Dolson moved from the service station near W E Storey to the new post office name change seeks Hicks to share Hodge renown. The Hodge Brothers plan a modern ranch house by the highway.
Barstow P. T. A. met on January 4 with lower attendance than hoped. Enrollment stands at 290 in grammar grades. Miss Mirian Van Watters of UC Extension will lecture at the February meeting, with a high school program and talk on School Law if possible. Van Waters, connected with the juvenile court, has experience with children. A free program, aimed at parents and interested citizens, is promised. Board party on January 29 and a dance on February 12 are planned.
Henderson and Son plan a new cleaning and dying establishment connected to their men’s furnishing store on First Street. The shop will be painted light yellow with a black stripe trim and ready in about two weeks. Mrs. Chas. Topping notes a library table and chairs arrived at the Barstow branch, inviting patrons to read at the library.
In Barstow, Ed Harris was appointed to fill the expired term of E. L. Pitcher, who resigned due to ill health after a contested election where Harris ran as a write in and gained votes. Harris and backers won the political clash as Supervisor Crain faced opposition from Pitcher supporters. Also noted are longer-term local officials and calls to move Barstow jail amid complaints of nuisance and disturbances affecting residents and railroad workers.
Distribution of California 1926 automobile license plates started Saturday with blue and white plates. The state expects registration to reach 1,500,000, per Will H. Marsh, chief of the State Division of Motor Vehicles. Southern California has an estimated 809,000 motorcar owners. The $3 fee remains, but those who miss the January 30 deadline face a $6 delinquent penalty. The state has 30 branch offices and plates will be distributed by the Automobile Club of Southern California. In San Bernardino plates will be delivered by appointed assistants. The pink certificate of ownership is not required for this year’s re registration. the white certificate with the $3 fee suffices.
Lorenzo Delgado six years old son of Mr and Mrs Amado Delgado died Thursday morning at home from dysentery per Dr Pratt certificate. Body cared for at Barstow Undertaking Parlors and to be entered in local cemetery Friday. Delgado family had resided in Barstow for three years.
The First National Bank of Victor ville announces in the Bar stow Printer that it will send System Calendars to anyone who requests them.
Barstow service station owned by Mr Sullivan will be moved back from the property line and expanded with more pumps to serve four cars at once. After remodeling, the curb will be lowered to allow machines to drive up to the pumps without blocking the sidewalk.
Mrs E L Pitcher arrived back from Los Angeles on Wednesday riding in a Buick with her nephew Walter Connor and his bride accompanying her.
Harrison A Millen applied to the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners to revoke Percy Purviances license. Purviance, once a Barstow high school science teacher, studied chiropractic during vacations and later ran a school in the San Francisco area. Witnesses testified about Purviances time in Barstow and possible attendance in eastern schools amid a troubled past.
Walter Connor of Pomona nephew of Mr and Mrs E L Pitcher married Miss Loudell Stephens of Ontario on December 28 in Los Angeles by a Justice of the Peace. Witnesses were Lloyd Allen and Miss Carmelita Wright. Connor has assisted his uncle at the new National Old Trails Service Station nearing completion this week.
A. P. Ring traveled with his niece Miss Viola Johnson during the holiday week visiting Barstow San Diego Catalina Island and Mount Lowe. The trip included a day on Catalina Island and a excursion to Mount Lowe.

Grant Bell a youth was arrested at 1119 Church street in Redlands on a disturbance charge after Peter Scalora of Pasadena accused him of abducting Bell’s wife and toddler. Bell is jailed on $500 bail. Mrs Scalora supported her tale while alleging her own mother kidnapper. the case drew in Scalora’s relatives seeking the child’s return.
