Oil Tree Not American
The tung oil tree did not originate in the United States. Those that we have in this country were brought here from China. The soil and climate in the southern United States has been found suitable for the cultivation of this tree. The nuts are crushed and the oil extracted commercially at this time in a recently erected factory near Gainesville, Florida. The Florida agricultural extension station has done considerable work with this tree.

Bridge grafting saves girdled orchard trees says Cornell professor
Prof. G W Peck of Cornell explains bridge grafting with cion wood from hardy varieties like McIntosh and Northern Spy. One-year sprouts are best, though water sprouts work. even thirty year old trees can be saved. Use many cions spaced 1.5 to 2 inches apart and graft in spring. If girdling is severe or uncertain, replace with new trees.

Pruning Apple Orchard Advice Stresses Cautious Cutting
Guidance on pruning an old apple orchard warns against cutting large branches and creating wounds that invite decay. Focus on removing dead wood and thinning smaller limbs to allow sun and air to reach all parts, avoid over thinning, and never leave stubs.
Mulching Strawberries Must Wait Until Ground Freezes
Do not mulch strawberry beds until the ground has frozen at least two inches deep. Mulching early traps warmth in the subsoil, encourages root growth, and when snow falls warms the soil, worsening winter damage.
Horticultural advice on trees crops and storage
Instructions urge protecting small trees from jack rabbits and removing poor trees early to replace them with better ones. Advice also covers keeping poor apples off markets to protect prices, proper spray equipment cleaning and storage, and marking weak trees for nitrogen fertilization next spring.
