Train Plunges Into Puente Creek Near Whittier
The Union Pacific The Los Angeles Limited passenger train derailed into Puente Creek five miles north of Whittier after a weakened bridge from heavy rains. Engineer Charles Ireland of Los Angeles was killed along with an unidentified man. Several others including F L Frazier Paul W Bee Claude Hartgheim W H Bolden James Barkdoll and Mrs A H Pendleton were injured with varying burns and contusions. The engineer planned to return to Los Angeles the next day.

Valley Boulevard traffic halted by washed-out bridges
All automobile traffic on Valley Boulevard stopped Wednesday as washed-out bridges blocked the route. The Mojave River nearly breached the Daggett bridge, sweeping southward and taking the south approach. Traffic between Yermo and Daggett was diverted to Barstow to cross the river.

Mexican Auto Accident Near Leak Ranch
Fansto accompanying Antonio Arias in his automobile met with an accident Monday night. The car ran off the road near the Leak ranch, overturned, Fansto trapped beneath it. He was pulled free and rushed to Barstow by Mr. Leak. Dr. Benson found a shoulder injury and a deep head cut. The courthouse is abandoned by county board. The old 1874 structure loses official identity as a new courthouse at Third Street and Arrowhead Avenue becomes the headquarters. Bids will be opened Feb 28 for wrecking the old hall of records and jail.

Boys Launch Boat Down Mojave River
Several boys launched an old boat from E. M. Haws ranch into the Mojave River on a Wednesday afternoon as waves rose. Marvin led the trek toward Leak ranch, while Kenneth rode for about a mile before reaching shore near a mountain east of town. Beacon Service Station Opens Under New Ownership
The Daggett service station opposite the Inspection Station has changed hands this week. C. C. Jarrett of Los Angeles bought it from Mr. Fix and renamed it the Beacon. A Beacon light from Los Angeles to Salt Lake will be installed near the station for aviators, with plans for a new garage nearby.

Miner John Babich Dies in Shaft Fall at Vontrig Ger Mine
A coroner's jury ruled apoplexy caused the death of 40 year old miner John Babich who fell from a scaffold into 100 feet of water while bailing at the Vontrig ger mine near Goffs last week. Babich body was recovered two days later and is held by a Needles undertaking firm awaiting word from a son in Arizona. Deputy Coroner Emmett Waters led the inquest.
