Barstow defeated Needles 20 to 16 to claim the Desert League championship at Needles after a rain-delayed trip. Needles led 9-8 at halftime as Barstow struggled with shooting. Rosic and Domelt led Needles scorers. Dillingham, Kerr and Swanger starred for Barstow.

Pomona People in Minneola Accident
A Cadillac with four Pomona residents was the last car added to a string of Minneola railroad crossing crashes. Mr and Mrs H M Edgar, Mrs Whipple and Mrs Barnett were en route to Needles when the vehicle overturned after dark perhaps due to a driver error or brake failure. Mrs Edgar suffered the most severe injuries and was taken to Barstow for treatment, while the other passengers walked away. The car later limped to Pomona. both the occupants and vehicle sustained damage.

College science group treks to local district
Twelve members of the Foundation at Whittier College journeyed from Barstow on a desert and mountain expedition. In Calico City they learned rock formations and ore extraction from miner EB Pefley. They visited Oriental Cave Glory Digging Little Ord mountains and Grand View mine.

Barstow Women’s Club Tree Planting Near Stoddard’s Well
Under Barstow Woman’s Club auspices, a Monday afternoon planting near Stoddard’s Well along the Bear Valley road saw fifty four Athal and Popular trees donated by Dix Van Dyke and Harland of Barstow planted with local help. A natural spring aids moisture, with earlier trees planted by the late R. M. Dillingham. About forty residents attended. lunches were provided and participants returned home by evening. The club thanks donors and urges watering of young trees as a public service and future refuge for travelers.
