Auto Tourists Crashed by Santa Fe Train east of Barstow

M. W. Moss of Glendale and W. C. Leonard of Ogden were seriously injured Thursday morning at Pisgah across from Barstow when Santa Fe train No 7 collided with their Dodge roadster. Moss suffered a fractured skull and dislocated hip. Leonard was seriously injured but in better condition. A cold wind and obscured vision due to side curtains contributed. They were taken to Barstow, examined by Dr. Pratt, and sent to the county hospital.

Attention of Highway Commission to Old Trail Route

California highway officials study traffic figures from the National Old Trail route and Blythe Mecca path to guide spending for road improvements. Data show 5,875 cars via Blythe Mecca from July to January 15, plus 4,? other counts, with contraband finds rising in January and December declines as winter traffic shifts.

Women’s club to stage big entertainment in Hinkley

The Women's Improvement Club of Hinkley will hold a Saturday evening program at the Hinkley school auditorium to raise funds for new furnishings. Barstow crowds are invited to see the feature Last Days of Pompeii along with three short reels. Refreshments will be served after the show.

Water Company Installs Mile of New Pipe Line

The Imperial Utility Company plans a mile of new water pipe in the residence district between the via duct and the high school. A well has been pumped clean and the improved line should boost summer water supply for that area. The Williams addition supply date is not yet known. Mexican quarters will also receive water from the Imperial plant, previously supplied by Santa Fe.

New Telephones Installed In Local Town

Jimmy Mullen of Interstate Telegraph Co installed new lines to improve service for local subscribers. The Peoples Home Laundry now has a listed number 22 M, Dr Pratt adds telephones at home and office, and Barstow Electrical and Plumbing Shop, formerly Dresse and Hoxsie, now have a phone number 8 R in their new quarters.

San Bernardino tax funds favor schools in 1922 23 apportionment

San Bernardino County auditor Vincent L. Roth reports that more than half of the first half 1922 23 tax collections were allocated to schools. Elementary schools receive 202 109 15 dollars and high schools 114 650 45 dollars in the bond and interest funds, part of roughly 650 000 dollars total across funds.
