Barstow welcomed Chautanque performers at the Liberty Theatre with the Reemiers as headliners featuring musical numbers and readings. Dr. G Ray’s South American travel tale drew praise, promising strong attendance for Ward Waters, Carlton Chamberlayne, and Seam Lewis Company performances through the week ending with a season-closing concert.
William Farnum leads a first class cast in Wolves of the Night at the Victory Theatre last Friday. Chas Clary stars as the grafting mining promoter while Farnum plays a rancher and mining engineer entombed during a mine mishap. Fatty Arbuckle appears in a standout comedy opening act.
Sunday program at Victory Theatre features Elmo Lincoln in Under Crimson Skies a Universal photodrama with Noble Johnson in a dramatic fist fight acclaimed as realistic. patrons urged to attend the Sunday matinees at 11 am and 4 pm with a Friday and Saturday bill including Bill Hart in Money Coral.
Frank Ryersy has hurried to Canada. his wife reportedly not expected to live. A Branton studio film crew of about thirty worked in Daggett and Calico last week under W S Van Dyke who says Calico is unmatched for certain pictures. Cattleman Cahill plans moving 200 head from Verde Ranch to his range north of Daggett. D D Connell homesteads near Yermo with freights busy breaking land and preparing prading.
A nondenominational call to shoppers to patronize home merchants and encourage broader stock. The message promotes early shopping and highlights that this year local stores offer good Christmas gifts with expanded varieties ready for the season.
Edwin Addison formerly of Barstow is hospitalized at Roseburg Oregon with severe burns from a tunnel wreck involving the S P railroad. He serves as a fireman and is unable to talk due to throat and lung injuries from escaping steam. An investigation will be held when he can testify.
In Barstow and nearby towns, a Butte Montana man, George J. Davies, died attempting to jump a departing train near the puzzle switches. His brother Frank arrived from Butte and arranged cremation in San Bernardino. A Chinese laborer Fung Ilun Nevan died en route from San Francisco to Cuba aboard a train between Bakersfield and Barstow. A serious auto wreck at the Hesperia crossing killed Dr and Mrs E Scott Blair and their son Edwin, injuring James Horton. Santa Fe fencing shifts and new gas engines arrive, while local road and car developments unfold.
Saturday morning December 11 the wagon will go around Barstow to collect all rubbish at residences. Rake leaves and yard debris into piles or boxes for easy loading. Tin cans should be placed in sacks for disposal by order of the Health Officer.
Northwestern county towns including Atolia Hampton Borosolway Landsburg Trona and others on the desert plan a New Year celebration at the Atolia Recreation hall with music and supper. Barstow will join. A later message says the dance is postponed to Washington's Birthday.
