Young Man Tries Suicide Near Buzzard Rock Barstow
Eddie Danmeyer an 18 year old San Bernardino delivery clerk attempted to end his life Monday afternoon near Buzzard rock Barstow by shooting himself in the right breast. He stopped a deputy sheriff for directions then was found in distress by a passerby and rushed to Dr Anderson. A note pinned to his coat read I couldn't make good Do not worry. He was taken to San Bernardino for treatment with hopeful recovery possible if infection is avoided.

Dispatches from New York say the Santa Fe railroad and Western Union Telegraph Company will distribute bonuses to all non brotherhood employees. About 2,500 Santa Fe workers in California and many Western Union staff will benefit. President E P Ripley announced roughly 2 750 000 will be distributed system wide. Bonuses vary by pay: non brotherhoods with two years service earning under 2 500 yearly get 100 percent. Western Union messengers get 25. those under 1 200 pay receive 7 percent. officers over that salary level get 6 percent. Ripley cited wartime conditions and living costs as factors prompting a lump sum distribution of additional compensation.
