Farley declined undersheriff for interior work and pursued the chief deputy post for field duties.

A Standard Oil representative said Standard Service Inc holds a three month option to purchase the First and Main corner. They may not close soon and are unlikely to start building before year’s end. The site sits at a key Barstow crossroads where U S Highway 66 and the Arrowhead route converge. About 48,690 nonresidents entered Southern California through this corner last month, with similar numbers traveling east, plus local cross-track traffic.

Invincibles Win City Baseball Championship in Close Series
The Invincible defeated the Sonorenses 7 to 3 last Sunday to clinch the city championship in a four-game total effort. Pitcher Joe Hernandez and catcher Elias Hernandez led the Invincibles, with Carlos Portillo and Jim Myers behind the plate for the Sonorenses. Umpires were Frank Reyes and Aristeo Martinez. Autogiro Draws Crowd From Barstow To Nevada
A Pitcairn autogiro piloted by C. E. Haines of Couer d Alene Idaho landed at the north side landing field Sunday morning to refuel as about sixty Barstow residents visited the field to view the new craft. Haines flew around the town with a passenger before heading to Las Vegas where reports say the aircraft was damaged on a soft dirt landing. Repairs will occur in Las Vegas or the machine will be shipped to Santa Barbara.

Diesel powered motor truck demonstration report
A Daggett check station call reported a diesel motor truck en route to Barstow and the coast. In charge were C. L. Cummins and Dave Evans. The truck averaged 16 miles per gallon at 33 mph on the cross country trip, with fuel costs 11.22 from New York to Los Angeles and a load of seven and a half tons.

A. C. Fleury state quarantine report shows continued rise in eastern auto travel to California. Daggett and Yerma stations logged thousands of cars bringing over 48 thousand people into Barstow and California in July.
