A late night blaze at the riverfront home of C. C. Kent destroyed the house and stable and an oil derrick along with a nearby cabin owned by Mrs. Bennett. Kent was driven out at 11 and has since moved in with a daughter in Los. Several theories linger with no conclusive evidence yet.
Miners from Lila C borax camp take vacations in Barstow and Daggett visiting friends Thog Coleman John Williams and Wm Warren. Thomas Os burn died of typhoid fever at San Bernardino hospital. Borax operations to resume on or before September 1. W W Jones visited Quail Springs mines and H Galeron returned to Paradise mines.
Steve Bedell reports about 70 men at work in the Pacific mines shipping two or three cars of ore daily to Jerome. About 40 men are registered at Ludlow and 25 at the mines.
Bear Valley reports Mr Sloan has returned while Barstow and George Hart join Mrs Hart in Bear Valley. The Dale mines employ about 60 miners.

Dr D W Mackenzie of Otis Yermo sends $2 with note hailing the Printer as just what the valley needs. He expresses pleasure at the increased popularity of the Printer.
Help wanted ad seeks girls of good character and intelligence to enter the nurses training school at San Bernardino County hospital. About 150 patients admitted yearly. Apply to Dr. Philip M. Savage, County Physician, San Bernardino, California. August 22.
The Majestic Theater opened last Saturday with a concert and dance. Dr. C E Stauter led vocal solos and Bistolfi’s San Francisco string trio performed. A large crowd enjoyed the evening and the new upper Sloan Hart space is devoted to entertainment. Dr. Stauter serves as manager.
J. E. Evans cut the third alfalfa crop of the season last week, the largest ever on his ranch. Anthony Speth of Los Angeles bought 40 acres from J. T. Evans, via agent T. G. Nicklin, to improve 10 acres for alfalfa this fall. A. C. Wilson plans a new pumping plant on his ranch and showcases a wide garden variety including beets, turnips, peas, carrots, squash, cucumbers, radishes, parsley, tomatoes, parsnips, cabbage, Irish potatoes, and sunflowers 18 ft high. A Mohave River country fair is proposed for farm and garden products.
Early Thursday morning Dr. Anderson attended a birth at the station hospital after a Mexican refugee woman, driven from Mexico by Orozco, gave birth to a boy. She has a husband and six children and was part of a Mormon colony. The piece calls on President Taft to press warring Mexican factions to honor American property and human rights.
Political pointers note the Progressive nomination of Roosevelt and Governor Johnson for VP adds uncertainty. Wilson seems to have the best chance, while the West gains recognition. The claim that Steve Bedell caused the Needles tornado is denied. Bedell reportedly receives a good reception and will split votes with Butler.
J T Evans was in Los Monday on a business trip. Charles Garver was in Los Angeles on business Monday. Mrs D C Henderson went to San Bernardino Monday on business. T O Carter is spending a week with his family at San Diego. Miss Anna M Cobb is spending the summer at Avalon Catalina Island. Her brother is superintending a mine in Korea. Geo B Hart and wife have gone to the Sloan Hart camp in Bear Valley. M Mahoney has been visiting his brother in Jerome Arizona whom he has not seen for many years.
