Barstow To Get East Service Station On Main Street

Foreman W A Swank reports the Richfield service station on Main near Seventh in Barstow will be ready early September. Eleven workers, including carpenters electricians and plumbers, are on site as lathers plasterers and further internal rooms are prepared. The center will be a sales room with separate spaces for women and men and a tile roof with decorative ironwork. A five foot planting area surrounds the building with shrubs and plants planned around the tower and grounds. Hydraulic hoist and future platform hoist sites are arranged.

Fenner Goffs District Appeal for Smelter Ore Supply

Sidney Dennis, a Barstow merchant, urges including Fenner and surrounding desert in a proposed Barstow smelter supply list. Airplane Service To San Francisco Initiated

Wesley Phillippi, pilot for Trans continental Air Transport, visited Barstow Monday. He drove an auto bus transporting passengers from plane to downtown headquarters. The bus was returning to the St. Louis factory, with another pilot completing the leg to Winslow, as Phillippi heads back to Los Angeles. The two day on duty, two day off schedule continues. He was told in Los Angeles he would be assigned Barstow to San Francisco starting September 1, marking the Pacific coast to east coast service.

Tourist tries to dodge bill at Daggett restaurant

A Illinois couple dined at Millett's in Daggett and the man tried to skip payment by leaving with five children. When the cashier could not break a twenty he claimed he'd settle at the station and returned to send the children away. The guests later paid for the meal and the long distance call. Guards escort prisoner from Las Vegas to Barstow jail

W. A. Smith and C. E. Trafton, San Quentin guards, stayed in Barstow overnight while returning from Goldfield Nevada. They were with Beatrice Boswell, prisoner 44679, captured in Las Vegas and escaped from prison camp 17 at Oroville. Boswell was held in Barstow jail overnight as officers moved north with their prisoner the next morning.

John A Wilson laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery

John A. Wilson former superintendent at the cement plant Oro Grande was laid to rest in Riverside cemetery. He was brother to Mrs. H. J. Miller of Barstow and husband of a San Bernardino resident. He left three married daughters in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Indio. He recently named corgemizer for the Fraternal Brotherhood amid many desert friends.
