Legion Post 324 Elects Officers At Meeting In May

At R A Griffith Post 324 American Legion a Monday night meeting elected Leonard Larsen manager of the Legion baseball team and Harry Fogelsong chaplain to fill Wm Steen’s term. Ben H Long became Acting Finance Officer while Burt Osborne is away. Fred Buckley and George Henderson join the School Medal awards committee. Fogelsong, Long, and Mr Collins join the Memorial Cap Committee with the Ladies Auxiliary. A large turnout included visitors from San Bernardino Post 14. The group plans a big attendance for the May meeting and aims to surpass 100 members.

Mojave Scout Troops Unite For Ceremony

A joint court of honor for Boy Scouts from Troop 71 Lucerne Valley and Yermo and Barstow regents was held at the Boy Scout building Friday night. Executive A J Roberts and assistants Don Berry and Carl Wiggins led the program with songs, a talk on summer camp, and camp life films. Badges awarded included hiking, scholarship, firemanship, personal health, and more to Scouts Reginald Knaggs, James Kerr, Russell Hudson, Varden Benson, Floyd Carr, Metcalf Owens, Victor Therkelsen, and Johnny Koelby. Refreshments followed.

Barstow Woman's Club Holds May Meeting and Elections

The Barstow Woman's Club met in the Boy Scout building for a semi monthly session. Inez Beimer won the Mystery Box prize. Officers elected were Inez Beimer president Donna Zentmire first vice president Sarah A Williams second vice president Ruth Pray recording secretary Stella White corresponding secretary Hoskins treasurer and Mabel Garver auditor with Kittie Sischo named parliamentarian. The next meeting is New Members Day on May 12 inviting all members to attend.

20 30 Club Holds Past Presidents Night

The 20 30 Club met Tuesday with all former presidents in attendance. Ivor Davies started the club, followed by Al Henderson Pat Garrett Rodge Hartwick Everett Williams current president, and Edgar Broad welcomed. Milton Poppett of San Berdo Club visited as Al Henderson played piano during singing.

Television Program Proves Success in Early Broadcast

New York marks the first daily television schedule with WGBS sound and W2XCR TV. Observers in downtown points reported clear pictures and recognizable announcer Mortimer Stewart and stars such as Peggy Hopkins Joyce and Primo Carnera. Static caused light streaks but did not spoil the effect. Receivers at posts showed pictures from two to eight inches square, with four inches at the downtown post.

Clarification states the Daggett Garage blast was not from Rock Gas but from Petrolane. Imperial Gas Company reports petrolane fuel caused the explosion. original Umbehend garage equipment was for Rock Gas but petrolane was in use at the time.
