Fifty Ludlow Kite Contest Draws Local Crowds in Barstow
About fifty Ludlow residents joined Barstow for the Maypole festival where a kite tournament drew many groups of colorful kites. Judges from Ludlow, Barstow, Kramer, Harper Lake and San Bernardino awarded prizes for best construction, most beautiful and most unique kites across classes A B and C. Local schools earned banners for highest flying and best craftsmanship amid a day of wind and celebration.

High Grade Barium Sold to Ray Donald in Ada County
A high grade barium property owned by J Hamilton Stewart of asadena was sold to Ray Donald. MacDonald has a contract with an oil company for all barium he can produce. The deposit is three miles from Ludlow and four cars have been shipped from the station. Reading room entertainment planned for Monday night includes harmony singers with violin and no accordion.

Twenty Three New Club Members Join Woman's Club
Twenty three new club members elected this year bring total to sixty two as the Woman's Club reports progress. Scott Crashes Plane Near Town Field No Injuries
C. A. Scott crashed his plane Sunday on the field north of town when the motor failed just fifty feet above ground. The aircraft struck a residence at the edge of the field, but Scott crawled free with no injuries though the craft was wrecked beyond repair.

Desert Spring Festival honors Barstow district students
On April 20 Barstow district grammar schools held a spring festival with a kite tournament, a flag salute, and songs. Barstow beat a combined school team 21 to 14 in a tennis game officiated by George Cunningham and Manuel Martinez, followed by Maypole dances and a school program. The queen Thelma Imel crowned the Spirit of Spring and kite prizes awarded before a Forum Theatre picture show.
