How Tractors Save Farm Labor

Central Illinois farmers report labor savings with Fordson tractors. A 28-inch horse-drawn plow yields 70 to 80 percent more output for one man than a single-bottom plow. A tractor with a 28-inch plow increases daily work by 30 to 35 percent versus six horses. A three-bottom plow on a tractor raises productivity 60 to 70 percent over two-bottom horse teams. About 600 farmer replies via the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirm these gains.
