Elks Train to Yermo Special from Los Angeles

The San Bernardino Elks Lodge plan a Saturday night Union Pacific run to Yermo with stops at San Bernardino Victorville and Barstow to gather members for initiation. Yerma Daggett hosts organize an elaborate desert program with vaudeville from Los Angeles and meals for about 250 Elks at the Athletic Clubhouse south of Yermo depot.

Harris Named Third Member of State Highway Commission

Governor C. Young appoints M. B. Harris of Fresno as the third member of the state highway commission. Harris, a Fresno attorney and former two year member of the upper house, is expected to win broad approval. Other commissioners are J. B. Baungartner of Santa Ana and Ralph W. Bull of Eureka.

Barstow Ball Club Reorganized For 1927 Season

At a well attended meeting last Monday night at Jimmy McKinley’s Pool Hall Barstow Ball Club was reorganized for 1927. Bob Burke elected manager and Evan Evanson secretary treasurer. The team will play independent ball and seek ample games to keep players busy. A plan for an Athletic Club in Barstow was discussed and a meeting set for April 25 to finalize organization.

Palmer Capable to Fill New State Position in California

Leroy A. Palmer, U S Mineral Inspector, has applied to Governor Young for the appointment as director of Natural Resources for California. He is described as efficient and well informed, with extensive work for the government across the state, and the mining fraternity would approve his appointment.

Recall of School Trustee for Hodge Held in May

San Bernardino Sun reports that the Hodge school district will hold a recall election on May 25 to decide whether trustee John F. Gibson should be recalled and Charles Cope elected in his place. The petition, signed by 19 district voters, alleges discourteous treatment of a teacher, inefficiency, obstacles to a new school, and other issues, marking the first recall in the county for a school district.

Deputy assessor to visit Barstow Monday April 25

Word from count headquarters notes the deputy assessor will be in Barstow at the Printer office on Monday April 25. Mrs. R. M. Hines visited Mrs. C. MH. Green this week and was en route to Monrovia after visiting kin in Needles. Wm. H. Bossand, who lost his right arm in an accident at the local yards, returned home last week from the Santa Fe hospital in Los Angeles, praised for his good health.

Kramer Hills mining plans drive interest in Kramer Hills ground

A delay in parts for the Bud Brady plant slows activity on the Kramer Hills block as mining engineer C Colcock Jones spends two days examining geology. Visitors including Arthur Gage C H McWillism J F E Johnson and J A Walters from Los Angeles observed the option ground as Randsburg milling affects feasibility and potential capital interest. The option expires this week and no binding commitments are reported yet.
