Kelly Mine History and Mining Revival Reflected in Local Tales
The article recalls the Kelly Mine dispute with Kelly filing to restrain current occupants and seek damages. It narrates colorful local lore about the mine’s financiers Harrell Hughes and Wark, contrasted with Edith Coons and Ben Sill as earlier stake earners. It notes a San Bernardino hotel lobby tale from a boot black Afro-American and ends affirming mining’s slow return and broader Western revival as silver demand rises.
