In Witkowbaree on Sept 29 workers at the Delaware Lackawanna and Western rail line are ordered to half time. About 60,000 men idle weekly across 21 workings as wage losses mount. October prospects show a $63,000 weekly shortfall, with total weekly wage loss around $45,000 per site. Restrictions in the last ten days cause two to three idle days per week for many.
Reported sighting places Adelbert Martin, alleged attacker of Mrs. Trombley, in a potato patch three miles from Northfield. In Rutland on Sept 30 Rev N Proulx head priest of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Mary marked his 25th year as a priest. A large gathering of clergy attended at Poultney High Mass and a banquet at the Pythian Hall followed. Rev A Proulx of Montreal preached. A 350-person reception featured evergreen decor and a programme by local choirs and ensembles. The event embraced community celebration of clerical service.

Gosgriff Sued Dr Patrick E McSweeney for 5000 claiming appendicitis surgery was misperformed and left her in poor health, with allegations she bore no disease and suffered permanent debility. Montpelier Sept Benares reports the summer granite mile posts placed along the line of the river RR from Groton toward the north rock. Each post is thirty eight feet long, fourteen inches wide and inches thick four feet buried. Posts align on the north side of the rock, every fifty ten feet from the roll. Foundations had to be built up in places and materials varied for uniformity.

In Montpelier on September 28 Bartholomew Croto pleaded not guilty to the murder of Peter Vorran near East Montpelier. The state’s attorney sought a trial date, with Judge Hielton to set terms. pretrial arrangements included defense and prosecution witnesses. Vorran died after a shotgun blast while returning home with his son four miles from the residence. A Barre interpreter assisted the proceedings due to language barriers. Croto was remanded without bail. Additional regional cases included charges against George Freeman for an alleged rape attempt and other indictments, with various bail amounts set.
Dr. Waldo R. Harkness pleads not guilty to forgery charges. W A Lord, who had just learned of the indictment, requested time to enter a demurrer to the indictment, which the court granted.
Former Barre resident Roxanna Dodge died at 1 00 this morning at her home 48 Main St Montpelier after several weeks of illness following a shock She was 80 years old and a daughter of Joshua Thwing long resident of Barre The funeral is planned for about 4 00 this afternoon in Montpelier She is survived by sister Mary Anne Thwing of Montpelier and other relatives
