The town of Monroe New Jersey turns out in force as fifty armed farmers search for Charles Pitney accused of brutal assaulting a 12 year old girl near Highland Falls. Citizens fled the area aboard horses and organized a vigil as the man eludes capture. The victim crawled home on hands and knees and remains hospitalized.
Newburyport Mass October 22 Sleepers within a quarter mile were aroused when three yeggs bad blown open a safe in William Dale grocery store at Oldtown near the Newburyport line The thieves fled after a chase by Dale who fired a revolver The safe and part of the store were wrecked but the robbers escaped with only a few dollars from the telephone plot box
On Oct 22 a man lying beside a road between West Narring and Nayatt was found shot, with two bullets in the heart area. An Italian laborer, about 30, was unidentified. Eyewitnesses fled into the woods. a 38 caliber revolver cylinder was found nearby, but the weapon is incomplete. Police and a medical examiner call it a possible murder.
Between 9,000 and 4,000 American sailors attended garden parties in Hibiya Park Tokyo on October 22. Mayors and princes hosted luncheons at the city hall and the British embassy garden. A theater event at Jiepan’s largest playhousefeatured Admiral Sperry and the fleet. A lantern procession gathered thousands of business leaders as the admirals prepared to depart for the hotel. Afternoon program includes the vice president’s address by Dr Blanchard of Newport and papers on differential diagnosis of scarlet fever and obstetrical topics. Rutland Woman's Club will distribute ladies’ awards in the club rooms this afternoon.
James H. Burke received a farewell jewel and honors at a Brattleboro gathering of 200 business and professional men. He is a past grand knight of Leo council Knights of Columbus and will move with his family to Essex Junction then North Blea to take a dispatching post for the Northern Railway between Port Limon and San Jose.

A group of automobilists witnessed a wild encounter as a man with an axe fought a buck deer near Northfield, 20 miles north of Concord, at the Glove by the railroad station. After a tense series of clashes the deer broke off and retreated into the woods.
