A note from F. G. B. recounts meeting a sailor who offered directions to Woodlawn cemetery. The sailor turned and quipped with nautical humor Dead ahead. The playful exchange preserves local color and archival tone.

Edward Burgess Ingersoll, an East Hill farmer, died Saturday morning at 6 after a two week illness with influenza and nedminin. Born April 2, 1885 in Dividing Creek New Jersey, he lived in Barre for years. He leaves wife Maury Rodeo, eight year old son Charles Leigh, and four brothers Somers Paterson, Charles Dividing Creek, Major Salem, and Andrew Millville New Jersey. A Mason and Cobble Hill Grange member, his cheerful Aeroaltes won him many friends. A private funeral was held Sunday afternoon. Rev J B Reardon officiating, followed by interment at Maplewood.
Pedro Acebo of Barre passes away Sunday forenoon after a two week illness. A native of Spain, he lived in Barre six years and worked as a granite cutter for Parry and Tones. There are no near relatives in America. his mother lives in Spain and his niece resides at 4 Abern place.
Joseph Gapit, 35, a native of Austria, died at City hospital after eight days of illness from Spanish influenza and pneumonia. A granite cutter by trade, he worked for Barre manufacturers since 1908. His brother Private Eugene Gapit serves in France. Most of his relatives remain in Austria.
Hervey Hebert aged 35 died at City hospital this morning at 8 o'clock after a brief illness. He had suffered Fre10 dogs and developed pneumonia. He leaves a wife and four children, his father and two brothers, with a third brother recently deceased. The family resided at 169 Brook Street. Hebert was a Canadian native and worked as a polisher.

Drs Miller and Smith leave for Pittsfield to aid influenza response. Dr H L Le Pache departs to Springfield to assist state health officials in epidemic control.
Miss Annie Ahern daughter of Mr and Mrs James Ahern of 41 Boat street died Saturday night after pneumonia from a grip attack. Born in 1800 she attended graded school and was mourned by friends and family. Survived by parents a sister Mrs Mason and Dorothy and Doris Ahern and brothers Francis and Wandell Ahern. Funeral from the house at 2 this afternoon with Rev J B Branson officiating and Elmwood cemetery noted.

Harry Davidson of 1H River street fled his home Sunday and his wife Mrs Davidson died Thursday afternoon. Their two children are critically ill. A double funeral for Mr and Mrs Davidson was held at B. W. Hooker & Cos mortuary chapel. Mr Davidson, about 35, was an insurance agent. Also, Mrs John Brogicevic of 18 Willey street died near noon, two days after her husband. The 30 year old Austrian native had lived in Harre six years. Three children survive, Martin Anna and Rosa. Funeral for Mr Brogicevic was from St Monica's church Sunday afternoon.
Giuseppe Bielli aged 60 died Sunday forenoon at 11 o clock on Berlin Street after a week long illness. Unmarried and a nine year resident of Barte he leaves five brothers serving with allied forces on the French and Vallan fronts, a sister and mother. Born in Italy in 1886 he was employed by Partigon Bry and belonged to the grauitecutters' bloom.
In Montpelier last evening the trustees of Heaton hospital weighed the resignation of Miss Crozier and discussed a possible successor. Mrs. Whelan, a recent graduate, has served as superintendent for two weeks amid Miss Crozier’s illness. Separately, news notes East Montpelier mourns the death of Rena B. Davis. funeral arrangements are set for Calais.
Saloniki reports eastern Macedonia under Bulgarian rule shows Jewish and Mohammedan Greeks faced deportation and starvation. Many Jews in Seres were killed or driven out while Mohammedans endured harsher treatment after Turkish troops left. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Shirley H Bradford of 108 South Main Street with Rev J B Reardon officiating. Interment followed in Hinneood cemetery.
