Sheldon October 2 A general store owned by W C Marsh was robbed last night with about 200 dollars in articles stolen. Entry was gained by breaking a plate glass window while a peanut sack was used to carry the loot. The safe in the office was untouched and putty had been removed from another window. authorities deem the job amateurish.
Washington October 2 A cablegram from Admiral Sperry announces the American fleet has arrived at Cavite. Sixteen battleships are in a squadron formation led by the fleet tender Yankton and support ships Panther and the refrigerator ship Culgen belated. The Ajax remains at Melbourne after colliding with a British merchant vessel.
Frank Fenalee, local agent of American Express NY, attempted to take poison on October 2. The youth, about 25, identified as Leo Pensier, living with his father Moses Pensier, was found after swallowing poison. Physicians treated him heroically and saved him from imminent danger, though his condition remains fragile.
Six people were killed and several injured when a Toledo and Ohio Central passenger excursion train from Bowling Green to Toledo collided from the rear with a freight train after a hot box caused a stop. Crews from Toledo worked to recover the bodies as investigators sought to determine if a flagman warned the freight.
In Youngstown a large store fire at H. Knox & Co's last night left three firemen dead and five more injured. Fire Chief Thomas Riley Captain Charles Vaughn and Fireman Edward Sweeney were among those on the roof when the interior collapsed. Police Chief William F. Bradford October 2 Eva Senora Hunt wed A Jenkins Jr son of Mr and Mrs A Jenkins in a ceremony at the Hunt home on Pleasant street. The groom wore formal attire and the ring bearer was Lucille Hunt niece of the bride. Out of town guests included A B Hunt and family West Lebanon N H Frank Gregg Montpelier Mrs George Albee East Hardwick Mrs Olmsted Morrisville and George Dimick Boston.
The Van Camp Packing company will expand its St Albans facility with a new two story structure 60 by 126 feet. Construction will be rushed to ease congestion in packing and shipping rooms as the plant enlarges to handle about 36,000 pounds of milk daily.
