Barre's Oldest Resident Reaches 96 Birthday
Alvin F. Smith of Barre, believed oldest in Washington county, celebrated his 96th birthday quietly at his niece Mrs Dan A Perry's home on the Montpelier road. Born May 25, 1815 in Brookfield, he is one of the last two surviving siblings of nine. He has led an active life despite a minor stomach ailment and expects to reach one hundred. His sister Mary L Newton of Montpelier, 80, joined him for the day.
