Chicago May 24 All prospects of peace in the teamsters strike have disappeared and it will be open war from now. A conference between Jamies Barry for the Express Drivers union and local managers failed. The union demands reinstatement of dismissed drivers. the companies refuse. Four hundred two drivers allied with the Lumbermen’s association struck, deliveries directed to their houses. Additional drivers may be pressed into service by allied wood industry groups. Sheriff Tarrett warned troops would be called if trouble erupts, with National Guard on standby and riot cartridges stocked.
William Igier, renowned for arctic exploration, died at 6:30 this morning at his Norton Ave home in Stanford. A fall last fall caused a brain lesion and a stroke of apoplexy Sunday. he was 65 years old.

Stephen A Morrison, native of Barre and brother of the late Miles Morrison, died May 4 in Saugatuck, Michigan. He survived by two daughters, grandchildren, and a sister. his wife died in 1881.
Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. Amanda Moon. The service, led by Rev. W. A. Kenzie, was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wool on Kirk Street. Floral tributes came from relatives and friends as the body was removed to South Royalton for burial.
Mrs Sarah A E Walton of Chelsea died in town after a lengthy illness. She was widely known in Orange and Washington counties. Her body will be moved for interment to Walfe eld. there will be no funeral rites beyond graveside selections as requested.
Rev Peter Merrill aged 85 died at Enosburg Falls after a long clerical career in the Methodist conference. He leaves a daughter Mrs J M Tefforda and a son Olin Merrill, a customs collector for the first district of Vermont at Burlington. Funeral services are to be held today.
