Paris dispatch reports Hungarian forces attacked a small French garrison in the Hungary Romania neutral zone. About 350 French soldiers were captured and later promised release by Hungarian authorities. The dispatch notes greatly disturbed conditions in Hungary and cites an official report.
Captain Wallace Foster, 82, famed for public patriotism, died at his Indianapolis home last night due to heart disease. Foster, a respected unit figure, had been widely known across the United States for his patriotic work.

Benjamin Porter White a Barre resident and longtime merchant dies at home 21 Maple Grove Street after a long illness. Born July 11 1835 he worked in a general store in Calais Pawtucket and Barre and was a partner in BW Hooker Co. He served Calais in 1878 and was active in Masonry Universalist church Vincilia club and local affairs. Survived by second wife Amelie Pierce and children Mabel Cole and Maurice White. Funeral Thursday at 2 with Rev J B Reardon. interment in Calais after vault placement. Flowers omitted per request.
The funeral for Erwin Lawlee was held Saturday at 2 PM from his Kirk Street home with Rev. B. G. Live officiating. The Bedding Methodist church choir sang Nearer My God to Thee, followed by a talk by Rev. Lipsky, then another hymn. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery vault after the arrival of his son Ralph, a soldier of the 28th Division. Attendees included Modern Woodmen of America representative Angus McDonall and ex-Chief C. Ring of the fire department. Several locals and out-of-town guests traveled to pay final respects, with numerous bouquets signaling the esteem in which Lawlee was held. Pallbearers were B. Giudding, W. & Want, Walter Shields, Charles A. Caran, Orville Fine, and Angus McDonald.
James Copban of Wrish and Cobban died at City hospital after a six week illness. Aged about 30, born in Dyce Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He leaves his mother in Scotland and a brother in Stamford, Connecticut. Resident of Barre eight years, member of the Barre Granite Manufacturers and Iroquois tribe. Funeral arrangements await his brother’s arrival.
The funeral of Peter Peduzzi of 67 Boynton Street was held Saturday afternoon at 2 from his home. A large turnout from the Italian community attended, and the family plot at Hope Cemetery received the remains. Pallbearers included Dominic Bianchi, Marco Antonio, and Dominico Merini along with John Merini and John Carenchin.
