Burlington March 17 Louis Huard was pulled into the press rolls at the Merchants Press rooms and severely injured. Major IL Nelson, just back from overseas, assisted with a first aid kit until medical help arrived. The boy was taken to Mary Fletcher Hospital in serious condition.
Prague dispatches report the Danube navigation has been resumed after an interruption. Paris and Amsterdam outlets note the restored waterway status as of early March with ships able to resume traffic and trade progressing.

A large Barre gathering honored Pvt Archibald Allan of the Canadian Army recently returned from France. About 200 attendees at J Clin Gordon hall enjoyed songs, dancing, and a speech by William Barclay presenting a gold watch. Allan, wounded at the front, departed for Montreal to finalize discharge after furlough.
The funeral of William McKane, who died in an accident at the Jones Brothers plant while handling a rope, was held at St. Monica’s Church with many friends and relatives from Graniteville and beyond attending. The Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters sent delegations, and pallbearers included James Mackie, Daniel Keeie, and others.
Funeral services for Charles F. Smith the well known auctioneer were held at Hedding Church after a prayer service at his residence on Washington Street. Rev Lipaky officiated. Burial followed in Hope Cemetery. Attendees included A. T. Smith of Barre Town and Bradley, Beadley, Victor and Mix, Mrs. Marcella Androse of Bradford, and many others from nearby towns. A large crowd from various places attended.
Prospects for final adjournment by April 4 grow dubious as the Vermont legislature nears the end of its eleven week session. Senate has 90 measures, House 40 in committee or calendared, with several routine items and several debated bills awaiting action. The Senate plans 12 items tonight including appropriations and recalls, while the House fends off a light agenda after Saturday’s cleaning up. The main items include retirement system bills, county officer voting by majority, and a cooperative extension funding measure, plus an appropriation for a public barge facility and other variances.
Thomas Sheridan aged 74 died Sunday afternoon at 2 on his home on Williamstown south hill Mont Sheridan Wie bern in Lowell Massachusetts after 70 years in the area. He was a carpenter by trade active almost to the end with heart trouble. Survived by wife Goldie Maldwin of Bridgeport and children Fay Sheridan John Sheridan and Mrs Joseph Brook with several siblings. Burial at Hope Cemetery after a funeral at his South Barre home.
