Diedling the prison commissioner lacked authority to conduct the Sing Sing inquiry in which Osborne was to testify on immorality cases.
Senator Benjamin P. L. Shively of Indiana died in Washington on March 16 after a long illness. A longtime senator since 1890s, he served as ranking member of the Appropriations Committee and supported the administration in Congress. Born in Indiana, Shively pursued carpentry, education, law, and journalism before entering politics, later joining the bar and engaging in public service. His passing marks the end of a varied career spanning education, law, and legislative leadership.
March 13. The Adirondacks lay under a driving blizzard with eight inches of snow in a night, bringing winter total to 10 feet 9 inches. Roads in rural areas are impassable and traffic is nearly at a standstill in Gloversville. Drifts near Broadalbin reach 40 feet and cottages at Canada Lake are buried from sight.
In Manchester the first presidential primary held in the state produced an unpledged Republican delegation for Chicago. Frank H. Challis lost to George TH. Moses of Concord who was unpledged by about two to one while Roosevelt was favored by Challis. Democratic and Progressive ballots were light though three of the Democratic at large delegates were pledged to Wilson and the fourth unpledged. The Progressive at large delegates were unpledged.
Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Crafts Patterson were held at her grandson K Bd. Gayer’s Eastern avenue home at 2:30 PM. Rev. J. BR. Reardon officiated as friends gathered among floral tributes. Interment follows at Crafts bury alongside her husband John Patterson, who died three years ago.
Theodore Beaudry sues Nellie Reachey in Rutland county court for intolerable severity claiming he fears living with her after she threw knives and slept with an axe under her pillow. He cites nightly sleep loss as harm and notes her arrest for non support as Swinnerton arranged $2 weekly payments pending the hearing.
Merton Shute alias Merton Watson, 20, Albany, bound over to county court in bail of 100 dollars on a charge of forgery. Arrested near Dike New Hampshire by Sheriff Worthen. Allegedly forged notes of Hartwick, Sraftebury and Iresburg residents, totaling 2117 dollars. Mother in Plainfield, father dead.

Nearly 20 professionals and notable Vermonters gathered at the Parilian hotel for Montpelier Board of Trade’s annual event. Governor Gates, Lt. Gov. Hale, University of Vermont President Renton, and others heard talks on enterprise, civic duty, and keeping youth in Vermont as the group outlined aims to build a constructive, outward looking community.
