Fort Leavenworth Kansas June 25 A report states First Lieutenant William H L Pliner Sixth Infantry Regular Army has been missing for nearly a week with no reason known. Pliner is a native of New Bedford Massachusetts sixty years old served in the Spanish American War and was later assigned to the Regular Army.
Perdicaris and Varley of the Vermont National Guard have arrived back after their capture by bandit Halsult. Perdicaris recounted hardships but praised some kindness. both men are recovering as plans form for a Vermont unit to depart for Manassas, Virginia, around early September for maneuvers with partial arrangements pending and a possible stay at State Grounds.
Citizens gathered in Middlebury on June 24 to oppose Redfield Proctor. A Republican convention protest and editorials attacked Proctor’s political stance as aggressive and potentially organizing opposition in Addison County. John W. Stewart supports Proctor for the United States Senate.

Windsor June 24 delegates J C Knight M O Perkins Edwardin and S A Reed elected to the Republican state convention. Delegates are uninstructed with three favoring Ball to green and one leaning toward DeBoer under conditions.

Central Vermont announces timetable changes beginning next Monday affecting trains through Barre and Montpelier Wells River. Noon train southbound begins Sunday after the 27th with new daily and Sunday service. Barre to Burlington trains shift to 7.05 pm southbound, 5.06 pm northbound. an extra southbound afternoon train at 6:46 weekdays and 6:05 Sundays. Montpelier Wells River line adjusts Barre departure to 12.90. Timecards and notices available at stations and The Times offices.
