Barre Recruits to Join C Company as Parade and Musical Benefit

Barre prepares for a recruiting drive with Fort Ethan Allen officers and privates arriving to boost the campaign. Lt. John F. Sullivan and Rev. Paul Moody head the contingent, with Lt. H. P. Shaw and several privates. The regimental band from Headquarters Company will entertain during the parade and at the opera house for the Girl from Broad Way fundraiser. Sergt. Heavy German Artillery Attacks French Fronts

Mitchell Catchepaugh Wedding Set At Websterville

Flora Elizabeth Mitchell and Clifford E. Catchepaugh wed at the Mitchell home in Websterville in a pink and white porch ceremony. Rev. W J M Beattie officiated. Native of Moretown Dies at Montpelier Home

Curtie S. Stewart a native of Moretown died at his daughter Mrs. Carl Knapp’s 20 Court Street Montpelier home after a long arterial illness. Funeral from Mrs. Knapp’s home Thursday at 2 pm with interment in Moretown cemetery. Born August 2 1860 he farmed in Moretown for years then moved to Montpelier 18 years ago to live with son Bert J. Stewart and daughter. Survived by wife and another daughter Mrs. William Thayer of Montpelier, along with two nephews James Turner of Montpelier and Frank Turner of Barre.

Mild case of infantile paralysis near South Barre

Gordon Smith a four year old near South Barre on Smith stock farm has a mild infantile paralysis. Dr B H Bailey attended and says the illness began with fever then the right leg and thigh became affected. No known contact with other cases. two other children in the family.

Two Montpelier Children Reported With Infantile Paralysis

Two cases of infantile paralysis were reported in Montpelier today. In the EC Berry family at 124 Elm Street a ten month old girl and a two year old daughter showed symptoms. Mr Gerner of CHM Street also has an affected child. Dr Lindsay, the health officer, is away. a representative of the state board of health was expected in Montpelier this afternoon.

Boy's Body Recovered After Drowning in River

The body of 10 year old George Simard was found in the Winooski River near Burlington after drowning on June 1. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Simard of Ta Chawe Hreet and survived by two sisters and a brother.

McFarland Named Second Ward City Commissioner

In a pivotal open session the city council elected Dr. William McFarland of Washington Street as commissioner from the second ward to succeed Harvey E. Averill who moved to the third ward. The meeting approved McFarland’s school board appointment by 2–1, and authorized a $100 out of $400 weekly net to fund a bagpipe music plan after advocates spoke in favor of the bagpipers. The board also accepted building inspector reports on roof repairs and additions, and authorized minor permits via the building inspector. Additional items included park refreshments approval, a bond for the sanatorium case, and routine warrants and notices to be paid.

June 20 But seamen from the freighter Bay Crees of the Housen farm left Montreal for Breton and were removed from the barge at Burlington after traces of theft. They were charged with violation of the selective draft law as federal authorities moved toward final action. Twelve crew members followed, with Felch’s body later reported.
