Shanghai report states the Vladivostok squadron of four cruisers entered Port Arthur harbor under dense fog last night and completely outwitted the pursuing Japanese. The Russians destroyed ten transports on the voyage, including one loaded with guns and ammunition bound for Vladivostok.
Reports arrive of fighting near Kaichou with a tanker moving south of Linn Yange Lino. The first train bearing wounded men has passed northward. Officials describe the engagement as concluded and await fuller details.
Gideon Barton of Brooklyn was found dead at his father's grave in the village cemetery. The body shows self-inflicted gunshot with a 35 caliber revolver discharged in the mouth. Barton, once a printer, had recently lived in Brooklyn and was visiting here. he leaves a wife in Brooklyn and other relatives.
Henry Nebby of Jeffersonville was thrown to the ground after an electric car halted near the Northern hotel. He received three stitches and was badly shaken, remaining dazed for a time.

Stanton delegates fared poorly and the party machinery suffered a setback. Delegates listed include Wells, Patrick, Herting, Wells, Beaupre, Flint, Severson, Lane, St Pierre, Burnap, Weer, Taylor, Isham, Warute, and Walker.
The Goddard team beat Barre 7 to 6 in a hard fought afternoon match at Catpas Field. Pitcher Dickie and Minnie held Barre’s offense late while Goddard’s batters rallied, with strong hits from Daniel and Wright helped by solid defense from Mudgett and Murray.
An Italian passenger on a Montpelier street car was struck on the head during a boarding dispute on June 20. Reported conflicting facts say the man was pushed off the car while the conductor remained inside. He was taken to Menton hospital with injuries described as not serious.
In Quincy Massachusetts June 10 after a large turnout for the sale of the Quincy Granite Quarries Co Willim Hi Russell of New York bid in the property interest for 75000 trustees and reorganizers will handle the reorganization to clear litigation The company owned 27 quarries in Quincy with one million dollar capital under New Jersey law. It defaulted on bonds last year and entered receivership. The reorganization was agreed upon to settle the litigation.
Beary Dasidy' Sewralll of Lower Cabot Borne reports a severe fire at a steam mill in Lower Cabot on Saturday night. The mill, uninsured, burned down but a village company saved most of the lumber. Damages run to several hundred dollars. much unsawed timber remains on hand and the mill had burned previously only a few months ago.
In a brisk Republican caucus in Braintree on Saturday the vote total reached 16a with Guy Clough and George W Wing carrying the ballots. Delegates to the state convention were elected with Bell and Stanton receiving top support, and district convention delegates named including A J Filet and Hi J Farnsworth.
In Bellows Falls on June 15 the Republican delegation elected 19 delegates to the county convention amid a statewide senatorial contest. Key figures include Houghton of Putney and Gage of Westminster with several uncommitted votes, while Bellows Falls backs Bell for governor and Williams and Ray in the mix.
Berlin selected two Stanton delegates TH Stewart and Wii Brown Slainfeld elected two uninstructed delegates reported as favoring DaBoer. Shelburne chose three uninstructed delegates Barkow Shrewsbury and Chittenden Rolland county elected uninstructed. Shrewsbury opposed. Richford chose four delegates split between DeHoor and Bell. Highgate Fairfax elected uninstructed delegates and St Albans Town chose Hell as delegate.
Orange on June 20 reports a Republican gathering where delegates instructed for Stanton for governor and C K Carpenter and Amos Parbridge to attend the state convention. The Callus Tesutre lists 207 delegates to the state convention with 162 unpledged and others supporting Stanton Beit.
At the Stephens and Gerrard picnic a snappy wall game between nines saw Makara dobusen and Stewart Juhupan’s nine win 18 to 2. Other events included a girls race with multiple winners and a lively football match finishing Gerrard’s side ahead 2 to 0 after Stephen’s team captured one score.
The Granite City cycling club held an outdoor event with a baseball game between Rennie and Anderson. Anderson’s team won by a small margin as pitchers fought hard. A hot ball match ended scoreless after halftime. There were races for married ladies young ladies and children with a closing party in the afternoon.

At the Skinner farm in Plainfeld on Saturday afternoon A W Allen, a man in fancy building, was struck by a mallet wielded by a Portuguese worker named Joseph Pereira. Pereira collapsed and died later, while Allen died about eight o clock. The Catholic cemetery burial followed. Pereira had worked on the Skinner farm only nine days.
Rev Asa M Bradley delivered a Memorial Day sermon last evening to about forty Knights members and attendees. He praised the Knights of old steel clad and spear pointed, outlined today’s ideal Knight, stressed the order’s age and principles, and closed with a tribute to its head. Uniform Rank and regular lodge members marched to the church and occupied seats on the right side of the auditorium.
The semi annual Vermont State Spiritualist association gathering at Barre Opera House closed after three days with a large crowd present. Mrs Effie L Webster of Syria Massachusetts gave test statements and an address by Fr Austin of Geneva New York followed by a conference. Visitors returned home today. No officers were elected and the next gathering will likely be in Montpelier in January.
The seventh annual reunion of the Washing County Neugh reson will be held at Davey Park on Wednesday and Thursday, May 28 and 29, with comrades of the G A R U V A and other veterans invited. Rev Charles Conklin of Boston delivered the annual baccalaureate sermon to Goddard graduates in Montpelier.
