Eight people including five women died and eight others were badly injured when a fast-spreading old style tenement fire on the East Side trapped occupants. A passerby raised the alarm before 4 a.m. but most tenants could not escape. A woman and her son died leaping from a window.
In Niagara Falls June 10 the United States refuses to consent to a Huerta backed transition plan. Mediation talks stalled as Mexican delegates and mediators clash over how to form a new provisional government without recognizing Huerta.
A Raleigh ceremony unveiled a memorial to the North Carolina Women of the Confederacy, the second such tribute after South Carolina’s monument. Prominent attendees from several states witnessed the dedication, funded by Audrey Horne’s bequest and aided by a state measure initiated by ex legislator from Johnston County. The statue stands at Capitol Square between Fayetteville and Salisbury streets, featuring reliefs of a grandmother with a grandson and a Confederate soldier, and bears the inscription To the North Carolina Women of the Confederacy.

William Francis of Malletts Bay lies in serious condition after a deep knife wound to the seventh rib on his left side. The assailant, described as a Hebrew and a cattle driver on a wagon with a yellow gear and red box, fled the scene after the Monday night stabbing in Burlington near Albert Potgin's residence on the Mallets Bay road.
The Holy Cross Roman Catholic church in Morrisville was dedicated today with mass at 130 o clock. Rev P J Barrett of Poultney delivered the sermon and presented the church’s first sacraments. Bishop Rt. Rice administered confirmation to about 20 youths as attendees filled the new building on Wada avenue. Furnishings including an organ altar stations and statues were gifts to the church. Rev W P Crosby serves as pastor.
A milk cart driver from Powers farm was threatened with a revolver by a Black assailant who halted him around sunrise yesterday. The assailant fled in a red touring car with a second Black man, no license plate observed, as they pulled away toward the Creek road at about five miles per hour.
A five foot passenger over the Portamouth and sie tory toll bridge discovered the body wedged between piling. Police towed it to Noble's island shore for examination. The corpse, likely Edward Sourcey of Merlin, drowned May 3 while fishing from the bridge pier. decomposition prevented positive ID.
Fire broke out in a hardware store in the HL Morte building on South Main Street, causing several hundred dollars in damage. Policeman Robert Walker discovered the blaze as smoke poured from the south window of the Pelkey store, with main losses from smoke and water. insurance coverage appears sufficient.

Ee Newell of Barre will announce winners during graduation exercises. The program featured an orchestra and multiple readings and scenes including Quo Vadis and The Swan Song, with numerous participants such as Lila Townsend and Katherine Ritter Hryake.

Caraquet New Brunswick June 10 Nineteen local fishermen are confirmed dead after a storm last Friday night. Four schooners were sunk and at least four more are missing while six houses under construction were demolished. About 75 trees were uprooted and reports on losses vary with some estimates as high as 125 fatalities deemed exaggerated.
In federal court yesterday Max Rink Brothers, wine dealers and merchants, were fired for violating the federal statute governing the shipment of adulterated or branded merchandise in interstate commerce. A consignment to St. Johnsbury New York and Hartford rail line involved seven gallons of whiskey labeled as prohibited goods.
