Re-Elected with Salary Increase for Holstein Secretary
A Milwaukee telegraph reports Brattleboro's Frederick T. L. Houghton was re elected as secretary of the Holstein Friesian Association of America. Opponents failed to amend by laws to make the post elective, and Houghton received a salary raise. The group lists over 11,000 members and 100 staff at the secretary’s office. this marks his 25th year in the role.

The Cost of Feeding Hens in a Farm Contest
In Mountain Grove Missouri during March 1918 the Jane Farm and Fireside reports feeding 200 hens of 16 breeds in a laying contest. Average feed cost per day per hen was about 0.01 dollars, totaling 1.02 dollars per hen for the first five months. Returns averaged 0.62 dollars per hen in March and 0.824 for the five months, leaving a net profit of 2.59 dollars per hen after feed costs for the five hens, with 16 birds in the contest fetching 14 dollars or more in eggs over the period.
