Hewitt and Wright's turning factory in Bristol was destroyed by fire this morning. Estimated loss is 15000 with 5000 insured. Cause unknown and rebuilding unlikely.
Fire destroyed the Morehouse home on East Montpelier Road while the family was away. Neighbors aided, and local fire crews responded quickly but could not control the blaze. Mrs Morehouse had been out for a wedding, and Mr Morehouse was at work. The cause is not yet known. Firefighters accessed the scene with water and chemicals as the structure burned. A small shed and surrounding property sustained damage.

Services for George Wealey Dodger, longtime Berlin resident, were held at his Montpelier Road home on Wednesday afternoon. The ceremony featured Rev. EF Newell of Medding Methodist Church officiating. Survivors include his wife and a daughter. a brother William Tayrhor attended the service. He was born January 2, 184? and lived in the town for over 45 years, serving as a farmer and town official.
Barre bars stage overhaul after city council approval. Detroit’s American Scenery Co. will renovate most scenery including a fireproof big curtain and slide proscenium, with artisans arriving to begin work ahead of Aug 24 opening. Rockwell Sunny South performs Aug 24, The Lady of the Slipper opens Sept 2, and a new street scene and borders will be added.
Willis H Taft of Weegt TM cxhead was adjudged bankrupt by Judge James Lycartin. Taft, a chair stock mill operator and lumber dealer, has liabilities of 485,000 with assets near 343,047. Wages, secured and unsecured claims, and notes bearing Taft's name as surety comprise debts. A receiver, Judge Fredki Pier of Brattleboro, was appointed to Taft mill property. Willard and Taft partners owned timber lands and 1,000,000 feet of lumber in Wordsboro, hindering sale and triggering failure progress. Willard unlikely to be seriously crippled.
Vermont business brief reports Cutler Storer Fay Co Inc of Barre is under involuntary bankruptcy petition by N. D. Phelps Co Consolidated Quarry Co and the Barre Medium Granite Co filed yesterday in Rutland at the U S Court clerk F S Platt's office with no figures given.
Carlo Maffini aged 69 died at his daughter's home on Poster Street after a five month illness. He leaves daughters Mrs Albisetti and Mrs Lucy Calderara in Barre, sister Mrs Mary Galli in California, brother and relatives in Italy, and a son Joseph Maffini in Virginia. Born in Angara in 1845, he was a stonecutter, member of the granite cutters union and Italian Old Men's society. Funeral from the house Saturday afternoon with burial in Cathade cemetery on Beckley Street.
The funeral of Clinton H. Ward was held from his late home in Moretown at 2 pm. Clergy from nearby churches led the rites including Rev. A Manitiga and Rev. Frank Ward with Rev. C. H. Cates of Cambridge. Bearers from Merethwr, Burlington, and Cambridge attended. Relatives listed among attendees. Hymns Nearer My God to Thee and Abide With Me were sung with Mrs. Hayett at the piano.
Two pedestrians were struck when a Buick driven by Gertrude Mortem slipped on a slippery Main Street near Langdon. Carroll Dobey suffered clothing torn and minor injuries. Edward Gardner had hip pain. Both were attended by Dr Moetinire at Heaton hospital with no serious injuries found.
