Washington July 27 officials of the state and navy departments welcomed Holland’s decision in the Venezuela matter. Due to interests in Venezuela Britain Germany France Italy and the United States the Suteh government may seek cooperation before a definite course. Strained Ties Between Venezuela and Curacao Erupt in Protests

In Willemstad on July 27, island residents protest Venezuelan actions they deem antagonistic to Curacao and the Dutch government. A mob attacked a Venezuelan publisher’s home and demonstrated before the Venezuelan consul’s residency, surrounding the German consulate and forcing troops to be deployed for protection. Two shots were fired from the consul’s house but caused no injuries.

Automobile Tragedy Near Port Henry Leaves Two Dead

A six miles west of Port Henry accident killed K Dodge of Malden Abies and Reed, both trapped as their touring car plunged into Muddy Crook and burned. R B Titer of Syracuse, a survivor, escaped with only a severe shaking. The crash occurred during a return trip for provisions, with details likely never known.

Train Near Wreck Near Lowell Massachusetts

The Boston and Maine accommodation train from White River Junction, due in Boston, narrowly escaped a wreck at Silver Lake station. A crane on a wrecking car protruded over the main track, breaking the passenger train’s arm and shattering windows as the train passed at speed. Fireman Vernon W. Carver suffered a broken forearm.

Fairfield July 27 The general store of Alfred G Finn was broken into Sunday morning and a quantity of men s wearing apparel cookies fruit pipes etc to the value of 25 stolen Entrance to the store was gained by breaking in a front window The robbery was probably the work of a professional but may have been done by a drunken person.

In Grand Isle county on July 27 a Democratic mass convention in Grand Isle nominating a ticket including Senator John Wright and Southe Mero, assistant judges James Tudbone and Charles Rivsell with Justin Beardsley as sheriff. Bristol July 27 The body of Frank Mannfeld was found this morning in the barn of Lo FL Dunshee. An inquest established Mansfield tied committed death by own action by faking an overdose of landium. He had complained the night before of not feeling well. He was married and the son of Anke Mansfield.

Officer Dead as Rutland County Mourns Murder Charge Grows

Deputy Sheriff Hayden died after an axe attack by Tony Vallento during a civil process arrest at Mt Holly. J R Thompson aided, Vallento wounded in a rifle exchange, later captured. Hayden lingered a week before death. Vallento held on $600 bail on assault with intent to murder.

Kent asylum fugitive suspected of murder

Rutland July 27 State's Attorney KR A Lawrence and Deputy Sheriff B W Whittaker seek Elroy Kent who escaped from the state hospital in Waterbury two weeks ago. They believe he killed Delia Congdon, killed in her East Wallingford pantry Friday. Initials EB Ko were found in Congdon barn. hay and shavings suggest recent activity. Kent, five feet four inches, 82 years old with a facial scar, left town yesterday. Frank Rogers was arrested on suspicion he might be the killer.

Arrest Made in Rutland Murder Case

Rutland on July 27 reports Vaapar Crociata arrested Saturday night and jailed to await hearing on charges of complicity in the murder of Accarito Santoro an Italian whose body was found here Wednesday night with two bullet holes. This is the eighth arrest in the case. One suspect is a 17-year-old girl. Crociata is brother of Rev Francis Croviata the local Malian priest.

Thirteen-year-old sustains rib injuries after fall near tannery

Maerold Benway son of Frank Benway of 142 Kim Avenue, Mont Pleter, slipped from a pile of shingles near the old tannery yesterday afternoon. He sustained two or three broken ribs and was badly shaken but is reported resting comfortably today.

State Board Opens Central Vermont Inspection

The state board of railroad commissioners began its annual inspection of the Central Vermont railroad at St Albans on July 27. The visit is expected to take about four days as officials evaluate the line and its operations. The board plans to inspect all railroads in the state this year.

Missing Burlington Man’s Body Recovered At River Mouth

Judson W. Baldwin 30, of 24 Mark Street, had been missing since Thursday afternoon. His body was found drowned at the mouth of the Winooski River near Rutland rail line. He was last seen walking north on the railroad track. authorities believe he fell attempting to dodge a train near the bridge. Edward Peatwick found the body and notified the family. Survived by his father Judson A. Baldwin and brother Frederick J. Baldwin.

Vermont G A R Posts Lost 68 in Half Year

Burlington July 27 The semiannual report by assistant adjutant and quartermaster Carlos B Williams of the Vermont G A R shows sixty eight deaths in the department in six months. Department membership across ninety one posts is 2707 with a net loss of 107 members and gain of 53. Expenditures total 5003 93 with property valued at 26000. Preparations underway for a large delegation to the National Encampment in Toledo Ohio August 31. Brattleboro Sunday Sales Clash Tests Vermont Law

Brattleboro on July 27 saw Peter Alexander defy a state order to close stores on Sundays by reopening his candy and ice cream shop after morning hours. An officer noted the event as Vermont statute penalties for selling without a license carry a 20 dollar fine, though no line was imposed yet. Orange County Democrats Nominate At Chelura Convention

The Orange County Democratic gathering at Chelura elected officers and a nominating committee. Col. H. C. Bixby presided. James K. Burke spoke on reform and praised Roosevelt and Proctor. Nominees for state and county offices were chosen and resolutions endorsed Bryan and Democratic platforms.

Charlee Burke a longtime Motorman for the Barre and Montpelier trolley system died suddenly after coughing fits. He was 49, born in Sorrel Canada, married to Pearl Slack and survived by two young children Emily and George, his mother Mrs M F Burke and three sisters in Canada. Burke worked ten years on the electric road and had earlier roles with Boston & Maine and Montpelier & Wells River rail lines. Funeral arrangements were not announced.

Cora V White aged 27 died of consumption Sunday at 10 25 in her parents home Essex Junction. Born there she was a Parlor Drug clerk in this city for years and later worked with W H Werlow in Randolph. Survived by her parents sisters and brothers in Vermont and Rhode Island. Funeral at nine tomorrow morning in Essex Junction with Catholic burial there.

Weather did not dampen the McMillan and son annual picnic at Caledonia park on Saturday. Music by Maker’s sons accompanied the event. Ten cents were given to children under 12. Three Raids Result in Liquor Seizures in River Street

Police and deputies conducted three raids on River Street residences leading to arrests for keeping and selling liquor. J W Stanburge and wife were jailed on $900 bail after four quarts and four pints of whiskey were found, Rose Brassaw and Bertha Gilson faced similar charges with a pint bottle seized, and Mrs Custina McLeod was held on a $60 bail for the corner house discovery. Bail difficulties left two couples in county jail pending September county court.

Surprise 20th Anniversary Celebration For Elrick Couple

Mr and Mrs James Elrick marked twenty years of marriage with a large surprise party Saturday night. About 150 friends gathered at their home after W Walker lured Mr Elrick there under a pretext. The couple returned home to find the celebration in full swing with toasts and gifts. A new oak bookcase and writing desk were presented to Mr Elrick as the highlight of the evening. Refreshments and lemonade were served as the event wrapped up with cheer and good wishes.
