Philadelphia reports 1 780 treated in hospitals 1 800 on streets 860 in stores and wagons as heat prostration peaks. Two dead and sixty in serious condition. Elks' convention continues as members depart. Lynn’s John D O Shea dies of apoplexy at Bellevue-Stratford.
In Philadelphia on July 10 a parade attracted about 2500 people and paralyzed by heat and humidity. Police ambulance Red Cross teams treated hundreds, and 44 year old James Rowley died in hospital after collapsing in the street. Several others were overcome as crowds filled the sidewalks and parade grounds stretched nine miles in total.
July heat swept New York as crowds fainted in public spaces and hospitals treated over 1,500 heat prostrations. Officials reported seven deaths and dozens more admitted as ambulance crews struggled to cope with the surge.
Boston records extreme heat and flooding with 12 storm-related pronouncements. One death and multiple injuries are linked to the severe conditions. Mary Gorman dies in her home while T. Murnane perishes in Quincy amid the turmoil.
In Hahnville Louisiana a verdict in a four day trial was read aloud with a unanimous jury after 45 minutes of deliberation. An hour later reports claimed preparations for a lynching were underway and local leaders condemned the verdict as unjust despite the defendants being held in the St Charles parish jail. The case involved Camplaciano Campixeiano and others including Tony Costa and Frank Gendiusa.
Hyde Park July 19 The Hon. P A Stevens aged 87 died at his son Sheriff H L Stevens home after a fall and long illness Born December 25 1819 in Barnard he was one of 12 children He taught school married Almira M Lewis in 1846 later moved to Hardwick Wolcott and finally Hyde Park He served as moderator for 30 consecutive town meetings and as assistant judge of the county court 1870 72 He is survived by his wife’s nieces and an adopted daughter Mrs Ellen F Scott Funeral was held in Walcott with Interment at Mount Cemetery beside his wife.

At a special board meeting in Rehenectudy New York on July 19 Dr Raymond was resigning as president of Union College. Dr George W Alexander of the University Place Presbyterian Church of New York was named temporary president but declined the post permanently. A committee was formed to invite an successor to Dr Raymond who will assume duties after a trip to Europe next month.
Reports of Sir Thomas Lipton challenging for the America's Cup were denied. Designer William Fife sails to the United States for the Canada Cup races this summer while Lipton travels by motor to avoid reporters.
In Medford, Massachusetts, a derrick lifting a two ton granite block on a temporary trestle beside a bridge over the Mystic River toppled into the river when the derrick and attached engine and boiler fell sixty feet. Engineer F. Colward of Somerville escaped with severe steam and water burns, while twenty five workers beneath the trestle narrowly avoided a catastrophe. The derrick and engine were badly damaged and several injuries were reported.
Frank E. Chace and Joseph Letty of Fall River were struck by an automobile while driving on the New Bedford pike about 6 30 p m. Both were thrown from the car with Chace in serious condition. The auto contained four occupants and fled at top speed. The chauffeur appeared to fail to steer clear and the car number could not be recovered beyond a broken headlight.

Davi Hall plans travel to Scotland. Len Robbing and family arrive for vacation with uncle Mr and Mrs Swin. Robert Butson dies after yearlong illness. Tra Ricker arrives from Massachusetts with stallion Boelayone. Rev E L Morrill speaks at Westville church. Mrs Rinna Clarke visits Wells River. Caledonia county court in St. Johnsbury on July 19 heard several divorce petitions. Holton vs Hattie J. Holton granted for adultery. George I. Smith vs Katie M. Smith heard and continued for further evidence. Jennie L. Morse vs Charles X. Morse granted for intolerable severity with $9,750 alimony in Danville. Alice M. St. John vs Joseph St. John heard and continued. Jooptitie Perlatti vs James Perlatti no bill for intolerable severity. Hardwick-resident Melvin Morse represented Perlatti.
A new railroad between Manchester and Granville, New York, is assured by forming the Valley Railroad Company to absorb the Manchester and Wille line. The project aims to connect Manchester with the Delaware and Hudson system, spurring development in a rich mining and quarry district. Directors and officers include Casper L. Leach as president and J. Sheldon among others, with a local meeting sparking the consolidation effort.
United States Marshal Horace W. Bailey of Rutland, hospitalized for weeks with blood poisoning in the left foot and diabetes, showed steady improvement. Doctors initially attempted minor operations but later decided to amputate after gangrenous conditions worsened. the wound is healing and Bailey's general condition improves.
Rev De J Georgy resigns as pastor of First church in Burlington. The letter, dated Seattle Washington, states the action was deferred for one week. Dr George Bealuna, president of Farry College in Springfield Missouri, offered presidency after extensive pastorships. George came to Burlington from Chicago where he led a theological seminary. He preached his first sermon on June 9, 1906, and had been in Burlington a little over a year.
The Burlington court clerk’s office lists bankruptcy filings including James He May of Barox trades, Paul Shepard of St Albans, Henry dakade of St Albans, among others. Exemptions and assets amounts are noted such as $100, $463 and $178, with claims and debts summarized.
Mrs Grace Spaulding of West Rutland is in critical condition from an illness described as hivosagha. She has suffered nine days of severe strain, with doctors unable to stabilize her condition despite July efforts.
A string of trolley cars returning from Riverton park collided in Portland on July 19 after a rear end crash as lights were dim. About twenty people were injured, including William Hayes foreman of Portland Gas Co and several locals. most suffered sprains, cuts, and minor injuries. The accident occurred when the following car failed to see the track was not clear, smashing into the preceding car and delaying passengers until the line was cleared.
Brattleboro July 19 A petition seeks to determine the ownership of water rights under a special act. The village may appoint a water board of five to twelve members and decide on bonding up to 90 thousand dollars to fund the water system and related expenditures.
State's Attorney Tap and Constable Wt Noley arrested Audette, a wanton aged twenty, for a coat taken from Fred Gumpbill's store. The coat was recovered at the hearing before Judge Mart. Campbell pleaded guilty and, fined $20 paid by his father, with remaining charges set for a grand jury.
John McCraw, long time station agent for Central Vermont and Boston and Maine, is promoted to a senior position at the Newton end of the Central Vermont railroad, succeeding G. Rowe who will oversee training for the New York, New Haven & Hartford line. McCraw came from St. Johnsbury four months ago and helped clear freight congestion during a recent embargo. he will be succeeded by H. K. Wathe of Miller’s Falls.
The speaker recalls offering to deliver milk for five and a half cents per quart but claims no sales occurred at that price. They state milk cost four to four and a half cents per quart at the Washington creameries and refuse to deliver at four cents, noting past delays and conditions in meeting demand. Washington.

Several individuals faced intoxication charges in yesterday and today sessions. Timothy Serhan and Christian Christianson pled guilty and paid fines totaling 871.11 and 615 respectively. A man named Sey Smith, found drunk on River Street, paid 45.50 in fines and costs. Irving Scales’ second intoxication trial was moved to July 20. A peace breach charge and a bantam fight case were also postponed pending other trials.
