Governor Guild released a letter from President Roosevelt replying to Mayor Fitzgerald’s plea for several warships to be assigned to Boston during Old Home Week. The president states the navy has been stretched this summer and calls the visit demand fulfilled, noting Jamestown exposition needs and prior naval commitments.
Benton July 18 up to a late hour this morning no more deaths had been added to those from the disaster on the battleship Georgia. The Georgia remained at the Clyde yard while jackies attended the funeral of Benjamin Krieger, the only victim whose body was not claimed. He was buried in the naval cemetery as the firing squad from the Georgia fired a salute.
The Rev John C Lougod a noted Free Will minister in New Hampshire died in Randolph after a long pulpit career spanning Natick Contoocook Pittsfield South Berwick and other towns. Born in East Randolph in 164 percent he served as a Civil War chaplain and later as a trustee of the New Hampshire Literary Institute. Funeral services were held at Gilmanton and East Randolph with several clergymen presiding. He is survived by his wife and one son.

Fraitleboro July 18 The case of W H Haigh versus EW Gibson was to be tried but halted before proceedings. Haigh, a tailor, claimed 5400 damages for injury to person dignity and reputation. The matter settled when the defendant paid 100 to the plaintiff.
In Burlington on July 15 Lily Smith pleaded guilty to furnishing liquor to Wile. She was sentenced by the city to serve not less than three nor more than three and a half months in the house of correction at Ruthand. Grand Jury charged W. Henry Tucker and others. police report details a store inventory including whiskey gin porter and ale with quantities listed and subject to attachment by C. Berry & Company of Boston.
High winds drive the schooner Montgomery under and over near the Rutland Wasa pier between North and South Hero islands. The steamer Ti eon diverted routes via Albany and arrived about four hours late. No injuries reported.
Brattleboro men upbraided the school board over expulsion of students tied to vandalism at the flagpole the night before Memorial Day. The meeting elected officials, debated the education committee, and set tuition terms with a $200 vacation school fund and a 64 cent tax.

Five people sickened after consuming tainted cheese at a social event in Sudbury. Victims include Harvey, and others linked to a Burlingto n county case. Investigators report foodborne illness traced to a single batch of cheese. charges and trials underway with multiple defendants named.
Plattsburg players win 9 to 1 as Riley Matted Fraser with 34 hits and 10 outs yesterday afternoon. Mathieu limited the visitors, holding them scoreless in the later innings while Plattsburg bunched timely hits. Burlington defeated Rutland in the ninth inning.

At Montpelier July 1 1906 a book and ladder truck was moved from Capitol Hall to a stall in the basement for the new city stable. The barn has two sleeping chambers and will house two men one able to drive the truck. The change aims to prevent damage while moving equipment and to place all city trams in the new barn.
