French forces press on two fronts in the sector between Montdidier and the Oise River advancing about 500 yards near Porte Farm and north of Compiegne, taking numerous prisoners in 24 hours.
Allied gains on the Picardy battlefield push French lines over a mile along a three mile front northwest of Montdidier near the Avre. Prisoners exceed 500 as Castel and other fortifications fall, endangering German positions west of the Avre toward Amiens.
Paris July 1910 a local operation last night on the front between Montdidier and the Oise. French advanced forward about 600 yards near the Porte farm in the vicinity of Anthouill northwest of Compiogne. Loges farm nearby was captured in a local operation on July 8.
On the French front near Avre Allied planes report a pivotal French victory that retakes and strengthens dominant positions along the corridor through which the Paris Amiens railway runs. The Associated Press notes local actions confirming the advance and strategic gains.
London reports successful minor enterprises on the Flanders front near Vieux and Morris. The War Office says 96 prisoners were taken and a few machines captured. Paris reports official confirmation of Lieut. Philip Davis of West Newton Massachusetts formerly of the Lafayette Flying Squadron. He was last seen in an air combat near Toul on June 2 and was killed when his aircraft fell in German lines seeking information from comrades.
London reports casualties for the week ended today totaling 14 911 officers and men, a drop from 17 330 in the prior week. The list covers British losses across theatres, reflecting ongoing wartime hardship and service obligations.
New York reports the latest U boat hero is Prince Henry XIIXVII of Reuss. The Cologne Gazette says he commanded a submarine wheel sub in Italian waters and helped sink three steamers including the transport Sant Anna.

He foresees extracting nitrates from air, advanced gas motors, purified waste waters fertilizing fields, deserts blossoming, oceans tapped, sun power harnessed, and self sufficient Germany with a strong peace.
New York July 13 an association of United States dyestuff and chemical importers announced that members with any Teutonic interests are barred from membership. The group plans to cooperate with the federal tariff and trade commissions, the war trade board and other agencies handling dye and sale of dyestuffs chemicals dye woods and tan extracts. Walter F Bykes of New York elected president.
Washington July 13 Chief Commissary Steward J Marcio of Philadelphia receives a gold medal of honor for rescuing a shipmate from a rough sea aboard U S S Smith. The medal honors his brave actions carried out on June 27.
New York reports arrangements to distribute neighborhood news to American troops abroad via the foreign press cable service. Walter Rogers directs the work with Herman Suter editing. The daily wireless reports will be sent to France and units, copied by naval wireless nets, and delivered free to military publications.
A bronze shield of honor presented by Governor McCall was unveiled in Gayhead mass to recognize the town’s wartime service. Gayhead reported 17 men and 10.4 percent of its population in the army and navy, later rising to 20, with Governor McCall delivering the presentation address.
A floor collapse in a warehouse on St Paul Street owned by Lymburner Limited fatally injures eight people and injures others. One deceased is identified as a nephew of the head of Lymburner Limited. the top floor stored with empty shells contributed to the tragedy.
New York on July 15 will host a grand Bastille Day observance led by Captain J. Peyriven’s air squadron. Allied air planes, troops, and naval units will participate in a mass pageant at Madison Square Garden, with a central French banner and a bugle call, followed by detachments from each nation and finally American forces joining the lineup.
In Roxbury Vermont two freight cars derailed when a switch plate failed causing a jackknifed sequence that blocked the line. A morning northbound local was delayed over an hour. Conductor Edward Muldoon led the freight crew with Conductor Michael Powers aiding in clearing the track. James K Donahue aged 90 died last night at his home in Websterville after a long illness. He was born in St George New Brunswick and came to Websterville years ago. He leaves a widow and several children. Funeral will be at St Sylvester's Graniteville on Monday morning at 9 o'clock conducted by Rev Fr Helating.
Washington July 15 Provost Marshal General Crowder issued a call for 12144 registrants with grammar school education and qualified for general military service. Of these men 154 are to entrain between August 1 and 28 for special occupational training to prepare for army service.
