President Wilson has returned from Europe to resume duties and push for a peace treaty. The transport George Washington steamed into New York Harbor this afternoon, greeted by officials from the government aboard the battleship Pennsylvania.
A fleet of warships escorted the transport George Washington as it neared New York harbor with President Wilson returning from France. The vessel flew the American flag and a large figure at its stern while a seaplane met the ship and labor leaders and Staten Island residents joined in the welcoming crowds along Fifth Avenue and Carnegie Hall route. More than 3000 police guarded the decorated streets as bunting adorned vessels and city landmarks.
July 4 New York reports four dreadnoughts and 24 destroyers from the Atlantic fleet escorting the George Washington with President Wilson aboard ten miles east of Sandy Hook. One thousand police and thousands of schoolchildren greet him at Teevere street before sailing to Manhattan. The welcome includes a Carnegie Hall ceremony and a transition to Pennsylvania Station for a Washington travel plan.

Brattleboro July 8 Harry P Webster president of Vermont Savings bank was badly cut in an automobile accident near Oneblock last night. He is in Brattleboro Memorial hospital with a deep scalp wound and facial injuries but no internal injuries. Webster was traveling with Ward Stearns of Brooklyn and David E Meithinny of New York Brattleboro residents and others. The car skidded, toppled into the Guilford road embankment and struck a telephone pole. Webster escaped, bleeding and glass strewn about, and was aided by physicians George R Anderson Harry P Greene and Winfred H Lane.
Gov Percival W Clement marked his 73rd birthday at home in Rutland surrounded by children and grandchildren. The day featured telegrams from across the state and country and a surprise party at Brookside with games, amusements, and a birthday cake with candles. Also present were his brother Wallace C Clement, daughter Mia Juha A Knowles of New York, Mrs William A Field of Chicago, Miss Bessie Clement, and grandchildren John A Knowles Jr Robert C Knowles Miles Lindsay Elizabeth Field and William H Field Jr.
Stockholm July 8 The Swedish seamen union strike that began Saturday disrupts the entire Swedish commercial fleet. The dispute stems from owners’ refusal to grant an eight hour day and a standard wage on ships under 700 tons in the Baltic and 400 tons in the North Sea. An arbitration panel has gone to Gothenburg to intervene.
The Main Slate iroaucus company of Fair Haven filed articles of incorporation in the secretary of state office to handle slate products. George M. Tab ward and Thomas D. Mabr signed. Moose River Creamery company of St Johnsbury has filed papers in the same office. its stock paid in full.
Harold Larrabee, longtime Montpelier and Barre electrical manager since 1911, will finish his duties at the end of the month and move August 1 to Norwich, Connecticut, to become general manager of Eastern Connecticut Power and Shore Line Electric Railway. The move follows promotion to larger concerns, as the two Vermont utilities prepare for transition.
A Vermont Good Roads association may form at a Montpelier meeting on Thursday June 10 at 2 PM in the Pavilion hotel.
