German forces claim two successes north of the Somme as they fight back against a French drive south of the river. They report capturing two small works near a village the French had seized in an assault late yesterday.

Fred H Adams aged 48 died yesterday at his home 16 Maple Avenue from hemorrhage of the brain after a long illness. Born in Cambridge Mass he lived in Marre since 1900. He married Carrie Roberts and they had three children Ralph, Dean and Mrs Elmer Clark. He leaves a large local circle of friends and relatives. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 o clock from the home of Mrs Elmer Clark.
A large earthquake in Calatiasetta Sicily is reported to have collapsed mines and buried workers. Initial dispatches from Rome and London indicate hundreds killed and widespread destruction with news from the Exchange Telegraph service.

Oscar Potter a longtime Clarendon resident died at Rutland hospital from injuries after falling onto a stove at his farm home near Dorr bridge. He was last seen Friday and found Sunday by Len Shelvey of Meadow Street. he was 90 decades old and survived by three sisters and a brother. Funeral plans to be announced.
Helmain A. Drew former Les County sheriff and grand master of Net Mampehite Masons fell 150 feet with his wife while escaping a fire near The Balsams. Mrs. Drew escaped with minor injuries. he suffered serious illness but no broken bones. They were treated at Colebrick Hospital. doctors hope for only temporary effects.
