War Department figures show 41 900 total casualties for the 26th Division with 4 730 killed in action and 3 624 severely wounded. An additional 2 819 wounded slightly 3 363 gas 283 missing and 136 taken prisoner.
Boston June 23 Yankees division took 8148 German prisoners with major battles listed Apremont Leicheprey Flirey Xivray Marvoisin Chateau Thierry St Mihiel and north of Verdun. The 20th division suffered 11955 New England National Guard including 1730 killed and 2819 wounded. The drive north of Verdun covered 441 kilometres and Chateau Thierry advance reached 17.4 kilometres in seven days.
Paris dispatch cites Marcel Hutin claiming the preliminary peace will be signed in early June at the latest. The report notes movements of units including the 24th regiment, air service mechanics, and marines bound for camps, with transports Solis and Bremerton sailing from Newport News and New York carrying officers and cadets.
Word from a camp states nearly all members of a Hartford battalion in the first machine gun regiment are ill with mumps. Police had awaited word of a return order as the unit was stationed abroad.

Elia Galli died in Elyria Ohio at age 87 after four days ill with influenza while at work. He lived with his brother Caesar in Elyria and leaves a large family including six brothers and two sisters. Born in Salerno Italy he came to Barre in 1804 to train as a stonecutter then moved to Elyria with Caesar four years ago. The funeral and burial will be in Elyria with relatives in Italy and several siblings residing in the city.
Lawrence Mass January 23 The Pacific Jails Lamet reports that textile workers seeking a 48 hour week were refused a formal statement announcing that current business conditions and future prospects do not justify reducing hours. The notice cited hours of labor as the obstacle and stated no change at this time.
Benton Jan 23 Governor Coolidge considered calling a conference of mayors from cities with textile plants to decide if state action is needed amid the mills workers controversy. The idea aims to address tensions and seek a resolution without new statewide mandates.
New York January 23 The Amalgamated Garment Workers announce the end of a three months strike by 66 000 workers in men and boys clothing with a 44 hour week. The 25 000 Indies waist and dressers strike remains ongoing while wage questions for men's workers await inquiry results. Strikers will return to work Monday.
Washington January 28 The Serbo Croatian vessel Dinara flying American colors and navigational papers was seized at Jelen January 16 by Italian forces in the Adriatic The Italian action included hauling down the American flag and removing the slip under Italian colors as reported by the official information bureau of the Kingdom of Serbs Croats and Slovenes.
Hartford January 23 Masimilian Voo Horgan New Haven lawyer author of Deathland Uber Alles was acquitted of desertion by a military court martial in San Antonio Texas. He remains held awaiting action to return for trial on treason charges in federal court in this district. United States District Attorney John F Crosby sent the indictment for treason to San Antonio for possible hearing if requested by Horgan. If bound over for trial he would be the first Connecticut resident indicted for treason since the Civil War era.
A 12 year old boy's body was found beneath dirt and stones on the Park river bank near Main Street Hartrom. Death appears from a fall at a wall bordering the river. Identity not yet known. police have not been informed of any naming.
Vermont supreme court denied the defendant Montpelier and Wells River Railroad's motion for a stay of execution in the Peter LeClair case. The judgment arose from a collision involving a railroad train and a street stop on South Main Street in Barre.
The Vermont legislature in Montpelier held a joint session to re elect supreme court justices Jake Watson Seneca Haselton George M. Powers William H Taylor and Willard W Miles. The funeral of Charles Colombo, who died at midnight Sunday, was held from his home at 21 North Main Street at 2 PM yesterday. A large crowd attended, with a Modern Woodmen of America delegation among the mourners. Bearers included Alexander Colombo, Carle Colombo, Harry Colombo, Batista Colombo, A Loren Ger, and Alexander Hamslie from the Modern Woodmen. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery.
