In Peking on January 16 Premier Yung Shi Kai escaped harm as two escort soldiers were killed and many bystanders wounded by a bomb. Three well dressed Chinese revolutionists, captured by Manchu troops, are confined in a guarded house and likely to face execution.
New York July 10 an issue of twenty million dollars five per cent gold debenture bonds sold to a New York banking concern. Proceeds to fund terminals additions and betterments to the system including a Mississippi river bridge at Memphis and terminal property upgrades at Chicago. Management will not sell first refunding mortgage bonds for two years, retaining them in treasury as issued in marketable amounts. First long term bond sale in a long period.
In arard Kentucky a snowbound mountain cabin left three children of Nancy Allen Furry of Grapevine dead from exposure. Their mother was found unconscious beside the frozen scene. efforts to revive her failed and no food or fuel was discovered. New York also reports a 35 degree drop in eighteen hours ending near the record low.
Attorney General James M. Swift entered his appearance before the Interstate Commerce Commission to defend Boston and Massachusetts in a case brought by the New York chamber of commerce against the New York Central Railroad and others. He argues the key issue is differential rates that tax exports bound for Boston, harming the port’s business.
Florence Italy January 16 Henry Labouchere editor of The London Truth dies here in his sleep. He was a leading independent politician in Britain and long served as a member of Parliament for about half a century.
John Z Bernstein, manager of a local coal company wholesale department, was shot and killed today at W T Avery's home in Memphis Tennessee. Avery, a former dealer, is identified as the shooter. The incident occurred January 16 and left Bernstein dead on the scene.
An express messenger and several passengers were injured when a train derailed this evening at West Merblan on the Alabama and Vicksburg railroad. Newmen, a 16 year old, was killed in the incident as the baggage car overturned.
Indianapolis January report from the United Mine Workers of America shows 17,000 miners were on strike on April 1 with costs of 40,000 dollars weekly for aid. Now only Colorado and a few mines in Tennessee and Missouri remain on strike as Secretary-Treasurer Edwin Perry notes surplus income of 46,422 dollars over expenditures.

Mrs Haskins wife of former Congressman D Kittredge Haskins died yesterday at her Brattleboro home after about two months illness from partial paralysis of the brain. Born March 9 1843 in Wilmington she moved to Williamsville then Brattleboro and celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in 1910. Survived by her husband three brothers and a sister with a son who died in infancy.
A massive blaze swept the southern half of the city known as the Venice of the East. Over 5268 buildings were destroyed, leaving about 20,000 people homeless as flames raged for hours, consuming more than 1360 houses in the first four hours.
The will contest of John A. Singer was settled with a $40,000 agreement. Contestants Juan Etta Singer and Merritt A. In Manchester Nova Scotia on June 1 Patrick Coleman 25 of 176 Auburn street was stabbed in the left breast by Tom W. Fenton 1360 Kim street after a heated argument at Greenleaf’s restaurant. Coleman was taken to Sacred Heart hospital in critical condition. Fenton 28 was also detained.

Pittsburg Pa Jan 11 the Rev W D McFarland former head of the wea domic department at Pittsburg high school is sought by police in connection with Eleie Dodd Coe death in a local hospital aged 28. An ante mortem statement alleged Dr McFarland and Rollin McConnell, now with the Weating house offices in Cor, were involved. Inquest showed McFarland left in 1910 for missionary work in Tennessee with headquarters at Greenville. The woman reported he was known to her mother and sister and a physician, twice since leaving, returned to influence her in favor of malpractice at the time of her death. The doctor, about 60, was once connected with religious work and taught at a western college.

Other clergy from Congregational, Hedding Methodist, Graniteville Presbyterian and Ramage spoke in support.
