An internal explosion at the Brooklyn Navy Yard destroyed a U S submarine today with twenty sailors killed. The exact cause of the blast is not yet known and investigators begin examining the wreckage.
New York January 15 reports the United States submarine B-6 was blown apart and sunk in the Brooklyn navy yard. A yard report to police said 20 men were killed and several injured by an internal explosion whose cause remains unknown.
Copies of Von Papen correspondence seized from the former German attaché show he sent funds to individuals linked to sabotage in the United States. Bank records detail about 500 items, including payments to Werner Horn and funds from Count von Bernstorff, with letters discussing wartime intelligence and a directorate under his control.

Meoperate excer ent, arrested in Greens Mass yesterday afternoon on obtaining money under false pretences. Warrant alleges he cashed a $4459 check at A. D. Farwell's store in Montpelier without funds to back it. Sheriff traced from that lie to Groengold. Canales held in Montpelier office recently. He claimed a shipwreck inheritance of 10000 from a relative in Spain, but the legacy is not confirmed.
Emmeline Pankhurst the British suffrage leader was stopped at Mille Island immigration station on arrival by steamship St Paul. Federal officials said detention due to prior British prison sentence. She and secretary Wickham resisted but faced admission denial under aliens crime rules.
Twenty five women teachers in the city schools met at Spaulding high school and organized the Harre chapter of the Vermont Woman Teachers club. Elroy J. Zeno of St Gorge street brought back his eight year old son Francis from St Johns after the boy enlisted on December 27 as a member of the 87th Grenadiers machine gun troop. Francis informed his father of his whereabouts and the family sought discharge through the Washington state department. The regiment consists largely of Americans from northern New England drawn by war excitement and will drill daily as part of a Canadian force to be sent to the front in spring.
An acid house at the DuPont Powder Company plant in Gibbstown New Jersey exploded last night injuring five workers two of them fatally. The blast follows eight DuPont plant explosions in three months causing 30 deaths and 20 injuries. The nitrate of ammonia crystallizing house, a brick and iron structure, was demolished at an estimated loss of 25000 dollars.
Hyde Park January 15 at a special county session Fred Hickman of Fletehier and Mrs Hersey Bennett of Pleasant Valley were charged with adultery. Beth pled guilty and Hickman was sentenced to Windsor for not more than 18 months nor less than one year. Mire Menmett received the same sentence but was placed under probation for two years.
A Central Labor Union committee met with ministers led by Rev Croweland to discuss the ministers attitude toward organized labor in the city. The conference, urged by the recent labor session, aimed to avoid antagonism and maintain neutrality in employer worker clashes while supporting the laboring public.

The Vermont State Spiritualist Association convened at the G A R rooms in Montpelier, opening last evening and running through Sunday. C H Sengalls of Montpelier presided. W J Colville of London gave the principal address on prospects of Spiritualism. Mrs Annie BR Chapman of Boston spoke, gave messages, and will present a program today and tomorrow with officer elections slated for late today.
The petitioner Helen Foster testified for two hours yesterday afternoon and one hour this morning in the divorce suit filed by Th A Foster of Barre. When asked if she would return to live with her husband she was doubtful about improvements in conditions.
Rev Fr P M McKenna of St Monicas raised 740 pounds needed to clear Joseph Sartorelli mortgage on Barre granite church property. Sartorelli, 49, native of Healy later moved to Barre. Funeral announced in Northfield with services at Saint Anthony’s, Barre residents preparing memorials and attendance.

Ambrosio Frontini a well known Italian in Montpelier killed himself with a shotgun last evening at Nseti River street after years of ill health. He suffered two years of illness and planned to seek relief in North Carolina before returning to Montpelier. He is survived by his wife, mother in Angera, a brother in Barre, and several children in Montpelier and Salisbury North Carolina. Funeral plans not yet set.
Two woodmen trapped by Old Borens wind were freed by Officers Dineen and Henderson at 1:80 this morning and locked up after police confirmed they were out of danger. Grange McSwain, jailed yesterday, is back in custody with James McCarthy aiding. A bottle of alcohol and a frozen water bottle were seized. They face arraignment later in city court. Eugene B. Arnold, jailed Friday, pleaded guilty to a first offense and accepted jail over a fine. John Tiresett, arrested yesterday, admitted a subsequent offense and received five days in jail for inability to pay the fine and costs.
