Mrs Laura F Osnegroge Dodge wife of Capt Albert F Dodge died Sunday morning at her son Oramel J Dodge’s Elm Street Barre home where she was wintering. Born in Orange County she lived in Barre since 1867. Survived by sons Frank E. Dilger of New York City and Oramel J. Dodge of Barre and grandchildren Mal Vraneix Dodge and A Damon Boyce Dodge. Funeral Tuesday at 2 from Oramel J Dodge’s Elm Street home with Rev J B Reardon officiating. interment Elmwood cemetery. Flowers omitted. Schedule for six county farm bureau meetings on Farmers Cooperative Exchange to discuss coal and fertilizer purchases. Abbot county agent also to attend. In Somerset Saturday night a shooting killed Mrs. Secor and wounded Harve Baker, who then shot himself. Mrs. Secor, wife of the Deerfield Lumber Co. Camp No. 7 manager in Wilmington, died at the scene. Baker later died in hospital. Deputy Sheriff Howe investigated after news reached Wilmington. Mrs. Secor was about 40. Baker about 32.
Rutland county men who went to Camp Devens with the first draftees slipped from Ayer Mass last week without proper papers. Four were detained by local officers under orders from the field artillery company commander. others were sent back to camp. Names include Frank Stratton, Anos Stratton, Frances J. Ral, and Edward Regen, with residences listed in Rutland area streets.
A trolley car of Barns & Mont peler struck two valuable animals belonging to John Benjamin near Dewey Park on Saturday evening. Motorists reported the incident as the animals were killed after being hit, with witnesses recalling a chaotic scene as the car continued to move. Police and barn officials are investigating the accident.
