In St Petersburg on December 8 a bridge under construction collapsed amid ice on the Vola River, plunging between 150 and 200 workers into the water. Only four men were rescued as hopes rise for possible survivors still clinging to floes.
Boston police arrested three men on counterfeiting charges last night as federal agents pursued the gang’s Lawrence plant. The suspects, Salvatore Reganasi, Lorenzo De Gloria, and Constantino Corsentino, were found with counterfeit half dollars and other items. Police say more arrests and money seizures are expected in Fitchburg and Lawrence today.
Mrs Hi. W. Orsertine has been confined at home by illness for three weeks. Edith Blanchard of Randolph assists at F. J. Colburn's store. William F. Johnson of Somerville recently visited E. W. Clark. Florence Rainger of St. Albans visits her grandfather William Cotter. Editor F. N. Whitney has recovered enough to be in the office part of the day. Mrs. Roscoe Benjamin and Martha Trot of Winsted Conn. are guests of Mrs. Benjamin's sister Mrs. Lo Saar. Mabel Pillabury has grippe, Tertha Rice substitutes at her East Roxbury school. Mr. and Mrs. George Jamen and son return to Hardwick after Thanksgiving with Mrs. James' parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Reed.
East Barre Woman Auxiliary opened with a good crowd and praise for the program. Fresh rummage items will replenish the table tonight. Saturday’s entertainment features good mm vic and The Tooman with eighteen members of Winona council visiting Winnetta court in Barre City. Mrs H B Partridge returns from Gouvernent, N J, caring for an ailing aunt.
Plainfield notices say the Indien of Use Finifield Village Improvement Society will stage a fair Tuesday and Wednesday with evenings and a Wednesday afternoon session at the hotel hall. Musical and literary programs will accompany the event along with fancy work and apron booths and home made candy and popcorn. Local residents are invited to contribute articles for the fair.

District No 4 Knights of Pythias and Mt Mansfield lodge met last evening with about 20 in attendance. After ranks were conferred, a banquet was served under W S Metcher and Roy Cruse. Toasts honored Grand Chancellor G Survie and other leaders as Chauncey Willey and MG Rowenberg were noted among attendees.

A fraternal get-together of New England Order of Protduction members drew about seventy-five local attendees and eight visiting lodges. Officers present included David F. Sherwood of Providence and Frank G. Howland of Meyre. Delegates from Norville to Northfield and Montpelier attended. after adjournment, attendees joined an elaborate banquet at Eureka restaurant before trains departed.
George Brigham is named new commander of a lively young veterans organization in Barre 8. An annual election results in appointments for secretary and treasurer. The camp, formed a year ago, reports twenty members and plans to expand activities and a signal service project led by Dady.
A charitable plantation supper served to over 175 guests last evening at a Gowt Shephert venue. Meals were well prepared with two servings and receipts favorably received. Division number 1 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians held its annual meeting to elect officers for the coming year. Selected officers include Ki. Standing committees will be formed later. meeting adjourned with refreshments.
In Barre this morning at city court Judge H W Scott sentenced Boyle for intoxication and a related offense to 30 days in jail with a $10 fine, plus 14 days added if not paid. The defendant and companion Burris were found asleep in a park area. both were ordered to jail in Montpelier. An officer escorted them to custody.
The funeral for Thomas Quinlen, who died Wednesday forenoon, was held at St. Monica’s Church this morning at 10:30. The pastor officiated. Pallbearers included John Tarn of Northfield, Frank Dully, A. Moore, Harry Quinn, ON. Grong, and Dawet Spy. Burial followed at the Catholic cemetery on Berkeley Street.
Forty Barre Board of Trade members heard W. Calton of Montpelier urge closer Barre Montpelier economic cooperation. He favored joint maple sugar and agricultural product advertising and cautioned against political maneuvering in trade efforts, praising Montpelier’s rest room initiative and Barre’s workhorse display.
