British forces seize Cologne as their Rhine objective while American units push toward Coblenz. The action marks a broad Allied advance along the river with troops securing key cities and positions.
British troops entered Cologne yesterday afternoon. Five American officers reached Coblenz and met local officials. last German troops were to leave Coblenz today. Pershing’s Friday report notes the 3d American army advancing along the entire line to Adel hov en and nearby towns in Germany.
Washington dispatch notes Bernstorff told Senate investigators that German propaganda and subsidized American newspapers were unavoidable, tied to the Lusitania sinking. Documents show Berlin blamed lack of secrecy and cite ties to papers including The Times Mail and The Territorial press.
Amsterdam reports the Hamburg soldiers and workers' council leader, released from a German prison, told Weser Zeitung in Camp in Prussia that 20 bags of minted gold were sent to prisoners of war. Parks reports that an international jury may be formed to try the former German emperor for murder. Attorney General Tescouve, after investigation, sent to the justice minister the charges brought by Madame Prieur whose husband died on the mail steamer Bursex. The attorney general deemed the allegations admissible in French court.
An official Copenhagen note from Detachment 7 warns Berlin's food reserve will cover only a daily bread ration of eighty grams after February 1, a third of the present. The death rate continues to rise, with 107 women dying in October 1915 and over 9,000 in October 1918.
Dr James Grack heads a Berlin department finding work for idle men. A Berlin dispatch to the Expo says 3000 applicants register daily and 24000 are unemployed. Fewer than a quarter of the German troops have returned from the front, with an estimated 70000 idle when demobilization finishes.

Flowers from family friends and relatives featured pink and white carnations white chrysanthemums and cream roses.
