A massive blaze swept five districts of Stamboul Constantinople yesterday afternoon and raged into today destroying about 2000 homes. The fire, worsened by strong winds, left thousands homeless and a search party is recovering bodies.
In Boston on August 24 at a gypsy camp wedding on Canter Street two youths entered a tent and stole a necklace valued at 1,100 dollars plus three watches and a chain. The jewelry belonged to Bernie Stanner. The theft sparked near riot conditions as police arrived to restore order and the board of health advances plans to move the camp, with a deadline looming.
Berlin reports Baron Sprek Von Bternburg, the German ambassador to the United States, died today in Heidelberg following an operation for a mincer. The telegram cites the operation as the cause of death and notes his death in the German press.
Three miners were struck by lightning 250 feet underground at Ranch Gap on Saturday morning. The bolt hit tram road rails and followed them to the workers, killing two and injuring a third who was expected to die. The men could not hear the storm.

Police declare death by her own action while friends call it an accident linked to melancholia after the death of her fiancé Emile Maas four months earlier. A maid found her noon yesterday as she lay on her right side clutching the revolver.
New York Aug 24 Captain Peter Hains is reported stark mad and a double watch is kept over him. He is said to have forgotten the killing of W E Annis and believes he must report to his superior officer at Fort Hamilton as his leave expires this morning. The brothers were not brought to trial today. By agreement of counsel the preliminary examination was put over to Friday.
President Roosevelt released a commission report dated August 6 detailing progress on the Panama Canal project from La Boquilla to Cristobal. The panel inspected government shops, shipyards, dredges, living quarters, and the canal excavation, outlining work accomplished and remaining tasks, with the president to present recommendations to Congress.
In Sydney Aug 24 the American heavyweight champion Tommy Barnett knocked out Australian Bill Squires after 13 rounds of a brutal match. Barnett dominated most of the bout though Squires showed power in the tenth and eleventh. The crowd mobbed the ring as the American gained the clear upper hand.

In Newport Rhode Island Aug 24 a probate court freed Mrs John Carter Brown widow of John Carter Brown from the estate matter last night. A large posse pursues a suspect named Holland charged with attempted assault on W morns daughter. Sheriff Watson says the girl’s uncle is involved in the case. The whereabouts remain sought as paralysis and distress echo through Butler county.
A Dover resident John Edward Dame is shot during a Sunday morning incident. Sterling, a city member, awoke after hearing a sound, claimed Dame drew a revolver, and the struggle led to a fatal shot. The scene involved a closet and a doorway as the altercation unfolded.
Hurlington August 2 Henry Prince or Francis is charged with breaking into a marble and granite shop and with a failure to escape. He attempted self harm with a razor in the county jail square, cutting his throat but the wound was cauterized and he will recover.
Middlebury August 24 streets were brightly lit for the county fair but late Saturday night or early Sunday morning vandals damaged decorations on many business blocks. A reward poster circulated to catch those responsible as suspicion falls on four or five loiterers seen near the streets after midnight.
SCARED BURGLARS OFF. St. Albans Aug. 24 Burglars attempted to enter the store of W. B. Soules at East Fairfield early this morning. Mr Soules, bearing a walking stick on the veranda, heard a dog and rattled the blinds to frighten them away. He found a chest of drawers and two coats left on the veranda.
Maniaw Wit Home and Co, a major Buffalo brokerage house, announces its suspension this morning. Officers have long operated from the Fidelity building, signaling a significant upheaval in the local financial scene.
A Comolli & Sons granite plant worker was hurt today when a granite block fell during lifting by a derrick. He was taken home and a physician summoned to treat him.

In city court this afternoon the case of John Moilvtinn charged with larceny of an 850 gold watch from Alfred Heckiman and 84.50 from John Miskell is heard before jurors W A Bradford James Marion EW Comings H C Leonard Fred Eaton and William Paul. Two separate allegations were made against McCiellan and the gold watch case proceeds today. Defender is Scott Carver and M M Gordon with Grand Juror K R Davin prosecuting.
The five month old son of Mir and Mrs Auuter Perello died Saturday afternoon after brief illness with cholera infantum. The funeral was held at two o'clock yesterday afternoon at St Monos church, Rew, UK, with PF Cray officiating. Burial followed at Catholic cemetery.

The year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilfred Lasuee of Graniteville died Saturday with funeral at the Catholic church and burial in the Graniteville cemetery.
