A Bristol Connecticut party of five in a car collided with the New York, New Haven Hartford railroad express near Ashley Falls six miles south of Great Barrington Massachusetts. Three occupants died and two were seriously injured including Mrs. Root and Miss Root who were taken to Pittsfield hospital. Mrs Root died, Miss Root and Mary Root were reported not likely to live.
